My 3 month old hasn't been taking more than 35-45 minute naps for about a month now and it had me concerned that he wasn't getting enough sleep as he would often seem pretty overtired at night. I tried everything I could think of to get him to sleep longer - white noise, swaddling, blackout curtains...like clockwork his eyes would pop open at that 35-45 minute time frame. So it got me thinking that maybe something is waking him up while he is moving through sleep cycles. So today, I wore him in his carrier during one of these naps. Right around that 35 minute mark he started whimpering, crying a little and gasping like he would after crying really hard - but he stayed asleep. I put his paci back in, comforted him, and he settled a bit and continued to sleep for an hour and a half!
Have any other babies out there cried or gasped in their sleep? Is this normal? Is there anything that I can do to help him get through it on his own so that he can take longer, more restful naps? TIA
Re: Crying/gasping while sleeping
My DD cries multiple times without waking up throughout the night. I get up, pop her pacifier back in probably every couple hours and go back to sleep. She wakes up ready and raring to go! If keeping that pacifier in her mouth keeps her sleeping,
