I'm in the process of registering and was curious of kid dishes were necessary?
We have ceramic plates, but we aren't completely plastic free.. But plan on using glass bottles and probably BLW.
Do I need special utensils? plates? storage for snacks? I want to skip purees... so i won't need the freezer containers..
This is confusing since it's so far away!
Re: Kid Dishes??
I wished I had registered for EF dishes for LO!
We did BLW, so we didn't use dishes until LO was actually eating more and he started to practice using utensils; I used to just put the food on his high chair tray. And I didn't need freezer containers as well, however you can still use some glass containers for storing leftovers; sometimes I make a large batch of apple sauce and freeze some.
DS is 21 month so he has been using plates and utensils consistently since about 16 month or so.
This is what we use:
-Our favorite plate: 5 compartment stainless steel "bus" platter
-Bowls and utensils by Green Toys. Sure, they are plastic but they are BPA and they are made from recycled milk jugs. Just to be on the safe side, I never put them in the dishwasher (heat breaks down plastic).
Sippy cups: I'm still in search of the elusive perfect sippy, but so far our favorites are the Safe Sippy2 ,stainless steel, for water and on the go, and the LollaCup for milk--it has a weighted straw so no milk goes to waste--also plastic but it is made from BPA free materials and made in the USA.
Hope that helps, GL!

So I guess that means you dont use anything special? It just looks like silverware and a ceramic plate. Which I already have.
We use Green Toys for bowls and utensils (made of recycled milk jugs - BPA free and made in the USA), Dr. Brown's plates since they have compartments for portions and we used the Lollacup when our little guy was first drinking out of a straw - great cup! I used other sippies first before the straw cup suggestion and for snack cups we chose Nuk. I consolidated all of the items I have bought for my toddler and why - links below for reference!
Also, if & when you decide to transition to 'regular' plates, make sure that they are lead free. Many of our plates were made in China so we replaced them with lead-free made in the USA plates before we transitioned our toddler to eat on our dishes - healthier for the whole family!
