C-sections

Natural Birth vs. C section?

My husband keeps insisting on natural birth. I'm scared to death? What are the pros and cons of natural birth vs. c section? Do I have a choice? 1st pregnancy.

Re: Natural Birth vs. C section?

  • Why are you scared of a vaginal birth?

Normally you cannot have a completely elective c/s.

  • Well, you generally don't get to choose a c-section, as it is a major surgery and reserved for situations of medical necessity. You can also give birth vaginally, but not naturally. You can have an epidural.

That being said, I have 2 issues with

  • Look at having a natural birth as a gift that many women don't get to have.  Do your research and read a book by Ina Gaskin.  Educate yourself before listening to what anyone tells you what to do.
  • Do mean a vaginal birth vs c/s? Most of the time you do not have a choice for a c/s.

If you mean natural vs c/s then it's no pain meds compared to major abdominal surgery.

  • C-sections are major surgery. Vaginal birth is something your body was made to do. There are a lot of benefits for both moms and babies when birth is vaginal vs. cesarean, from the physical act of squeezing the baby to clear his lungs to the hormonal r

  • Define "natural".  I didn't have CS but feel very strongly that "natural" is whatever you have to do to deliver a baby.  A vaginal delivery is much easier recovery than a CS.  You typically can not have an elective CS without a reason.&nbsp
  • C sections are not a choice..... Medical history and pregancy issues.....thoses are why we have had csections.

  • My first child was born vaginally and it was nothing at all. I was terrrified as well with it being my first but everything went smoothly and I am glad I was able to experince it.  My 2nd child was born emergency c section because of a pro lapsed

  • I chose to have a c-section. Flame away if you must. The chances of me needing an emergency c-section were relatively high, and I figured that I would rather go in knowing what was going on. I knew that if I tried to deliver and needed an emergency c-s

  • Couldn't agree more about how it should be your choice. It's your body.  Flamers will flame, but that's not what you need right now.   I, too, was terrified of giving birth vaginally.  For my first child, I wanted a C-section and my OBGY

  • After 30 hours of intense contractions (the nurses were wowing over my monitor) and 2 full hours of pushing I ended up having an emergency C-section since baby was stuck in the birth canal.

In a way I did both vaginal delivery and C-sectio

  • I am all for a woman having the right to choose how she gives birth. A lot of hospitals and OB's now do require you to try for a vaginal birth but if you really want it you will find someone who can do that for you.

  • I have not given birth, but I have known I would have to have a csection when I do give birth since I was 18 and had a large fibroid removed from the wall of my uterus. That being said, my husband is a med student who has been studying birth and he says t
  • 1.  Any way a baby comes into this world is "natural", you probably mean vaginal and/or unmedicated.  Just to explain, it sometimes makes C-Section mamas feel like crap to think their births aren't thought of as natural.

  • I want to add....I will NEVER understand why someone would want a csection? So many of us just wish we could have had that oppurtunity of a vaginal birth and yet couldnt. I am sorry, but if not medical and its just by choice you are selfish! Flame me I do
