Ok so I heard about this on the radio this morning ... and I just had to share.
Apparently it is the "thing" now for HS school students to do "prom proposals". People were calling in and sharing how they (or thier child) "proposed" to thier prom dates. Some examples:
Mowed "Will you go to Prom with me" in the football field.
Covered girl's car in rose petal, and then spelled out "PROM?" in roses on the hood".
Wrote on stone wall with chalk "Will you go to Prom with --> (arrow pointing to the guy)".
Apparently this is something that started on the reality show "Laguna Beach" several years ago and has cought on across the country. Apparantly I have been living under a log and have never heard of students doing this?
BTW - I'm picturing John Cusack (cerca "Say Anything") holding up a boombox outside a window!
At first I was like, oh wow, that's so cute and sounds like such fun! But then I got to thinking is this setting unrealistic expectations of guys/girls later in life. I mean life is not a romatic comedy, so don't expect life to happen like it does in the movies (or scripted reality shows).
I know that sounds horrible to say it that way ... but I have a very close friend who is waiting for her life to play out like a movie ... she's waiting for a brittish hunk to bump into her in a chic used bookstore in NYC. There will be hair flipping and cute banter. He will propose on the ice skating ring at Rockefeller Center. You think I'm kidding, but I'm serious! She has told me that if she's ever in a relaitionship where I think it's heading to a proposal, I NEED to tell him about the whole Rockefeller Center thing. I'm not even sure that she can ise skate?!?! I think her expectations are a little unrealilistic. I mean, for pete's sake, we're 33, join eHarmony.
Sorry, I digress ...
But think about it. It's a cute idea, but then later in life they are really going to have to do even more to impress a girl during a marrage proposal. And how disapointed would you be if your prom proposal was BETTER than your marriage proposal???
But then again, I'm not the kind of person who wants to be the center of attention, so such public things like this would make me very uncomfortable.
What do you guys think of this whole "prom proposal" thing?

Re: Prom Proposals ???
When I first saw the title, I thought it was going to be about MARRIAGE proposals during prom. Glad it's not that.
I didn't even go to prom, because I found that kind of thing so uninteresting in high school. These prom proposals are
My SIL is 18 and a senior in high school and she has had a steady BF for a year now. She made him do a big "prom proposal" because all of her friends were getting them...even though it was a given that the two of them were going to go to prom toge
I don't think they do that around here. I teach high school and I've not seen anything like that.
When I was in HS, you didn't just "ask" someone to Prom. You either went with an existing boyfriend/girlfriend or just went with a frien
I am not going to lie....... I think this is awesome.
I loved it when I watched Laguna Beach and they did it by hanging a banner on an over pass! Maybe I am just a hopless romantic, but I think it is fun and a way to showcase your creativity.
You know what? I wish we had done that. We could have staged a big elaborate scene in the middl
