how important are cribs to you?

so i really like the babyletto hudson in white. i am short and have had a mishap while baby sitting where i couldn't get a child out of a crib.. it was scary, and i always said i'd have a short crib. i really like this one.

h thinks we should buy cheaper cribs, they sell for $299 on amazon, which isn't a ton, imo, but he thinks they'll need beds soon..

my sil and bil swear that you can use their crib for 5 years. our nephew is almost 2 and still has the sides up, and up until a year ago, our other nephew who is almost 7, was using his crib without the side as a toddler bed.

there are cribs at ikea that are super cheap and just seem super small. my biggest conflict is will i regret spending 100 and not use it as long and have to buy something else anyway? or would you buy the more expensive crib?

i'm a ftm, we're having twins. TIA!

Re: how important are cribs to you?

  • I know there are cribs out there made to convert to toddler beds, did they have that kind?
that's what we bought and we're going to go straight from that to the twin set we were given from my grandma...

  • They make cribs shorter these days anyway. The drop sides are now illegal to use, and they made the cribs shorter so they can be used without a dropside and still be reachable. I would get the cheaper cribs, I got one fairly cheap and I love it. Simple, w

  • We bought (well BIL bought) a nice crib that converts to a toddler bed... Well we're going to buy a toddler bed for Lucas and have baby sleep in the crib since he just started acting like he's trying to climb out. We also have to get it because the fro

  • My sister used the convertible cribs and now her 6 year old uses it as a regular full size bed and the 3 year old just started using it as a full size bed. I think the convertible cribs are a good investment. Especially if you have twins you can turn them
  • I was considering the same cribs! At first I was set on the Hudson, but I've heard great things about the Ikea cribs. For a third of the price I think that's what I'm going to do. They have the same simple modern look and I'm sure I can find other ways to

  • DS has a 4-in-1 convertible crib that goes from crib to toddler bed with rail to toddler bed without rail and finally to a full bed.  We paid $260 for it I think.  He would be staying in it for the long haul,  but we're transitioning him to

  • My LO is still in her crib with no sign of coming out and she is almost two. When she shows signs of climbing we will take off the front rail (it is convertible).

On another note - we didn't use the crib for DD until she was over 4 months old.

  • Another thing to consider is bunk beds. I've never used my crib for anything else, the other 2 have bunks and I've always had a new baby come after the toddler is done with the crib.

  • We got M's crib at IKEA (gulliver)- $100 for the crib, $30 for the mattress.  It converts to a toddler bed.  It's light weight and small.  I consider both of those things to be a plus.  It is very sturdy.  I'm 5'3" and I have no p

  • My kids will have both slept in the crib for at least 2 years. We transitioned DS to a twin bed when DD was about 4 months so she could use it. Our crib doesn't convert and I think because of the size the max in it would be about 3 years but they would

  • Honestly, a crib is one of those purchases I wish I would have spent less on. We spent around $300, but I wish I would have gone with the $120 Graco I was looking at. While the crib has served us well (we are now using it as a toddler bed and will use

  • I think as long as your crib meets current safety guidelines and you can reach in ok, you should be all set.  Some kids can stay in their cribs until they are 2 or 3....need to move them when potty trained.  Others start climbing out at 18 mo

  • We had a convertible crib that changed to a toddler bed for $250-299. Bought it at shopko. I'm 5'1" so I feel your pain with difficulty in the crib height, especially that cribs don't usually have the drop sides anymore. Honestly, when the mattress was at

  • I just wanted to say I'm 5'0 tall only and don't have an issue getting my daughter out and it isn't a shorter crib. So I would think you would be okay, but maybe go to the store and check them out.

  • $300 isn't that expensive, imo. Especially if it converts. We spent much more on ours...so I'm probably not the best person to ask. haha

  • DD's crib is convertible but I doubt we will convert it.  We went for inexpensive (Graco Lauren for $100 on clearance).  Never planned to use it as a toddler bed and it's a good thing because she is so tall she may be ready for a twin by the tim

  • I spent good money on my crib, but I plan for each child to use it. We just switched DS to a bed so the new baby can have the crib. I don't think you can use a crib as a crib for 5 years. Most kids will climb out by then. DS sleeps much better on a real m
