Tricare Prime vs Standard for baby

Hi ladies,

I am not having the greatest luck with being able to get my son seen off post with him being on prime and he has to be seen on post which I've also not had great experience with. So I am wondering if anyone has gone to standard with their baby and is seen off post and how the co-pays may be? He's going to be 9 months and usually pretty healthy but when I want to make an appointment I can never get a next day appointment and his check-up appointments I have to schedule two months in advance just to be able to get him seen on post at the correct time/month. Thank you!

Re: Tricare Prime vs Standard for baby

  • We've had DS on standard since he was born, so he has never seen and on post doctor. For all of his well-child checkups, shots, etc. we have never had to pay a co-pay. We had to pay $10 when he had a fever and we took him in to get checked out. All of his

  • We also chose standard because I wasn't ok with someone else choosing my child's doctor.  My son is 11 weeks and from birth we've had several (and I mean SEVERAL) appointments for weight gain issues, milk allergy issues, and his well baby visits. &nb

  • Both of my girls are on Standard. Their well visits usually cost us around $13. DD2 has had issues with her weight gain and has had to be seen by many specialists. Her latest appt with a GI specialist only cost us $10. We love being able to choose wh

  • I pay nothing for well baby visits and vaccinations. They are covered completely. When we hit our deductible, I pay 15% of Tricare allowable charges. The extra costs are completely worth the flexibility.

  • I've always chosen standard for my kids and me. I like picking my own doctors and the copays are minimal if anything

  • We had LO on Standard until we moved overseas.  In one year we paid under $200, that includes two surgeries, lots of doctor visits.  We never paid for the regular checkups though.  When we move back stateside we will put him back on standar
