Trouble TTC

Saline sonogram and RE appt/$$?

We finally went to the RE and it looks like IVF is in our cards based on our MFI  values and I hate to say it but "cost effectiveness" since we are entirely OOP and no IUI is covered.

They're essentially repeating many of the tests we've had done already before we proceed but they're also suggesting a saline sono. Did others have this done? I know why it needs to be done but I'm wondering if it has to be.

Any experiences? Is it worse than the HSG?

Overall I left feeling optimistic (RE said pregnancy in about 6 months of start date... Lower than I had thought)  but I have a phone consultation with the finance coordinator to go over treatment costs. I have no idea how much it will all be but I'm guessing  15-20k for 1 cycle. DH is guessing 10k.  I don't think he's factoring costs of doctor visits.   Any input on what $ you were given is appreciated.

Re: Saline sonogram and RE appt/$$?

  • I had a saline sono before my ivf cycle. It didn't hurt at all. I felt a cramp (like an IUI) when the catheter went in, but that is it.

I was told it helps the RE see the path that the catheter will need to take for the transfer and the saline w

  • I had to have one post m/c before we could proceed with our FET. I only cramped a little when the nurse pushed the saline in too fast, but it was over quickly. My RE didn't require one before I began tx, but I've seen that some do.

  • I had one and it was awful. I may be the exception as most people do fine with it. I told 2 advils before and it didn't help. if you are sensitive to pain I would suggest the same or something stronger.

  • Haven't had a saline sono so can't speak to that. I asked my nurse about IVF costs and she told me it would be $15-18K including meds for me. I hope the finance coordinator can give you some answers and fingers crossed they have some decent options.

  • My Saline Sonogram was better than my HSG. One, because the tubing was smaller for the Sonogram. Two, because my husband distracted me and three because the skilled RE inserted the tubing in my cervix instead of the Radiologist (HSG). After insurance my H

  • I've had 2 saline sonos done by 2 different REs, the first was painful but not quite as bad as the HSG, the second wasn't really painful at all. I think it may have to do with how careful or slow they are when they inject the saline. Take some ibuprofe

  • My experience was that the saline sonogram was nothing like my HSG. The saline sono was not painful at all (a bit uncomfortable), the HSG hurt like nothing I had ever felt before. I took Advil before the HSG, nothing before the saline sono.
