Sorry this may be long....
Back Jan 5th my son came down with a horrible cold, runny nose, fever, heavy cough, etc. went to drs and they said it was just a bad cold- end of January comes and he still has the exact same symptoms, no improvements- went back to the drs and they said he had a sinus infection and a double ear infection- went on antibiotics- february comes and no improvement, same heavy heavy cough, constant snots, etc. mid February take him back to the dr. he has another ear infection and still bad cold- they put him on another round of antibiotics, zyrtec and nebulizer treatments- end of february still no improvement! back to drs for a follow up last week and I didn't get to see the dr i saw the NP who I dont really trust- she said that his ears were clear and that he just has a cold still and wrote ANOTHER antibiotic- which I didnt end up filling because 3 antibiotics in 2 months sounds crazy to me and obviously it isn't working! He keeps shaking his head back and forth like there is fluid in his ears, she said it didn't sound alarming to her and that he just has a cold and it's normal for babies to have colds this long- I stay at home so it's not like he is exposed to many germs or other kids/adults who have colds-
Now this morning he went in for his well visit and i was planning on talking to the dr about his cough/nose/cold that will never end and I got the same NP! She checks his one ear and goes hmm there is a lot of puss and fluid build up in there but I think hes fine since he isn't tugging on his ears (and I told her that any time he has an ear infection he doesn't tug on them) I expressed my concern about him having a consistent cough and congestion for nearly 3 months now and her response was that babies can have 12 colds in a year? She said its his way of building up his immune system and its fine that he has had a cold for 3 months now! I'm not one to be over concerned or a worry wort but this seems crazy to me...wish I saw the dr
He is a happy baby and the cold doesn't seem to bother him but it's just constant cough, runny nose, congestion
Anyone going through this? What would you do?
