How soon for prenatal appt?

I am going to a midwife center for my first prenatal visit and plan to deliver there as well. My first appointment isn't until I am 12 weeks along. I am 8w now and haven't seen a doctor at all. Is this ok? From the posts I have seen it seems like majority have already had prenatal visits.

Re: How soon for prenatal appt?

  • I have an appointment tomorrow and I'm only 4 1/2 weeks. The midwife might just be booked that's why your appointment is so far away. I wouldn't worry about it if you're not cramping or bleeding. Otherwise, call back and request an appointment that's soon

  • I will be 11 weeks when I see a dr for the first time.  My doctor feels like there isn't much they can see before 8-9 weeks so they have us wait unless there is a problem.  My cycle is irregular so they want to wait a few more weeks just to make

  • I think this is normal.  I am using my normal OB/GYN since I love her and feel totally comfortable with her.  I saw her around the 6 week mark about a week ago but the appointment was just a quick exam, and she did my blood work.  That i

  • I called right after I got my BFP and they scheduled me for the 8-9 week window.  It's normal.  The time feels like it is dragging though and I still have 2 weeks for they see me! I just want the piece of mind knowing everything is going well!
  • My doctors office was the same and I felt the same way you did! I ended up having blood drawn today to check everything out and will have an early u/s bc I had a nv pregnancy last month. I think its pretty normal unless there is something to wory about bu
  • I went at 5 weeks but that is only because I am considered high risk from having twins, thyroid, anemia and so much other stuff! On top of that I had to stop a lot of meds for safety and needed to see him for that too! Otherwise I would have been seen aro

  • My first appointment with the midwife is at the end of April when I will be about 11 weeks. It seems so far away but that seems to be the norm in some areas.
  • My first appt is at 10 weeks.
  • My first appointment won't be until I'm 8 weeks but that's because we will be on vacation from 9-12 weeks, almost 13.

  • My first appt is at 11 weeks.

It is a long wait, but the way I look at it is that I wasn't planning on telling work (or others) until 12 weeks anyway, and it's a lot easier to cover one doctor's appt then several!

  • 5 weeks today. I called to make an appointment a couple days after I got a couple positive home pregnancy tests, which was when I was 1 day late. Docs office told me on the phone they want to see me between 9-12 weeks, so I am scheduled to go in just one

Our appointments started earlier, but it's because we have been working with an RE and needed to get cleared before being released back to a regular doctor.  I think a lot of the 6 week appointments you hear about are either high-risk or women dealin
