My Has read them and I have started reading them recently. I will say that watching the series after reading the books definitely fills in some of the "gaps" in the plot of the TV series (the parts they have to cut to make it fit in the time slot

Completely agree.
I also found the whole Daenerys plot to be MUCH more scandalous in the book-since she was only 13-but on TV she looks about 25...but I like her. I think she and Arya are my favorite characters so far.
@mamaholmes - Glad you guys were able to agree on a date. I am sure having to TTA right now is tough especially after your loss. Best of luck when June rolls around again.

Yes, I think Daenerys' age makes a big difference. Given the Drogo character, I can see why the show chose to age her, but it puts her decisions in a completely different light. In the book she's an impulsive barely-teen, while in the show
