Babies: 9 - 12 Months

random questions :)

I completely forgot to ask at my son's 9 month check the other day.  But when is it ok to start using sunscreen?   It's still frigid here and it looks like more snow for the weekend.  But I know that in good old South Dakota fashion we could have a 30 degree day and the next have a 70 degree day...so just want to be prepared.  Also do any of you use sunglasses for your little one?  My mom bought Brecken a pair, but for some reason I thought I had heard some where that you shouldn't use sunglasses on babies.  Not sure if that is right or not...any insight would be great.  Have a good day everyone :)

Re: random questions :)

  • They recommend to start using sunscreen at 6 months so your LO should be fine at 9 months. The baby sunscreen is probably best. My LO also has a pair of sunglasses but hasn't used them yet. I'd be interested to hear the answer to this but I really can't s

  • I think 6 months was the standard age, but the AAP has released a statement that it's okay used sparingly on younger babies. I put a bit of sunscreen on DD last summer on a couple of occasions.

  • Our ped said sunscreen was fine at our6mo appointment.  She never told us not to use sunglasses but DD won't keep them on (even the kind with the strap she pulls off).

  • Ha...I never thought of that...he probably wouldn't keep them on either...it's a struggle to keep a hat on the kid let alone sunglasses...he also pulls his socks of any chance he gets...so it's probably a lost cause anyway :)
  • I'm just replying with hello because I never see So Dak moms on here! We are hoping for some spring weather! :)
  • Us too! We've got cabin fever bad! It's got to come eventually right?! :
  • Yes! Last weekend was a nice reminder of what's to come... It just needs to come around for good! That's SD for us:)

  • I think 6 months and also it should say on the bottle. At 9 months I was using sunscreen on her outside.
