Pregnant after 35

Got NT Scan results this morning

The OB nurse called me this morning and said the NT Scan results came back normal.  Yay!  When I asked if she had any of the ratios, the only one she had was for DS - 1/120.  I asked if that was normal because it seemed high to me, and she said "yes, for your age."  So I'm curious what the rest of you were told or what your ratios were?  I thought I remember some of you saying you had higher ratios than that (1/200+ at a higher age) and were ordered further testing.  I'm 36.

Re: Got NT Scan results this morning

  • Did you do the quad screen or just the NT scan?  The perinatal center we went to uses a cutoff of 1/250 to differentiate an abnormal result from a normal one for the quad screen, at least for my age group (36 with my 1st, 38 now).  So 1/120 w

  • My initial unadjusted risk for my age was pretty high, something like 1:69? After my NT scan it went way up to 1:474. I still had the MaterniT21 test done just to be sure, and it came back negative. If you are concerned about your test result, I agree wit

  • NT scan only w/ bloodwork.  I've got another call into the office with more questions.  I don't know if my OB even offers the quad.  That's later though, right?

Yes, everything I've read says 1/120 is high at any age.  I don't

  • 1/120 is not astronomical--yes, it's a little high for a 36 year-old, but the NT scan is only about 85% accurate anyway, so although it's hard not to worry, the odds are still very much in your favor that the baby is fine. Yes, I remember now that you ask

  • Wow, I'm surprised at the high price that Sequenom quoted you.  When I had mine done, they told me it was $235 maximum out of pocket for me if my insurance did not cover it.  There was no mention of it being income based, that was just the pr

  • Mine was 37% lower than for my age. I used that to apply it to the chart of risk by age. I cannot remember if it took me to 1 in 500 or something.

  • Update:  Ok, got some more info from OB nurse and am even more confused. That 1/120 ratio is bunk. It's based solely on my age. That's it. No bloodwork, NT fold, nothing.

  • That sounds strange, my number came back at like 1 in 1100, the blood work numbers from the lab were sent to a perinatalogist to get the final ratio factoring in the NT measurements plus my age etc. I was unable to do the Mat21 either, since I have HMO i

  • That is strange that they can't give you an accurate ratio based on the bloodwork.  Mine gave the initial ratio and then after the quad screen at 16 weeks the ratio got even better.  It is good that yours came back at normal though even though y

  • I'm also 36, and my initial NT results said our risk for DS was 1 in 160, which they said was considered normal for my age. However, I went ahead and had an amnio. It was worth it for me for peace of mind.
  • I had the blood draw for the MaterniT21 test this morning.  Now we wait.
