Special Needs

Oh boy - picture day

Just got a note that April 12th is picture day at Chris's school.  He goes to a special needs school so I assume they have experience with less than cooperative kids but I have no idea how Chris is going to be that day.

Any tips on how we can prepare him for this?

  • Well, at DS' school, they let you choose the background for your child's picture, so I let DS choose. He chose "pink swirl." ;)

    No tips, though. Good luck!

I'm a special needs teacher.  I don't have any background info about your child, but based on the question, I'm assuming he may be having difficulty with transitions or new situations?

I have found that with many of my student

  • I hate picture day too. Part of me thinks I should buy a ridiculously overpriced package because it is a right of passage or milestone marker, but another part of me doesn't need a reminder that my kid cannot smile and why the f should I pay for that?<

  • Thanks for the tips guys.  Mostly it's because he can't sit still to save his life and if you force it, 3..2..1.. boom!  I said to DH today that in the class pic Chris'll be the one being carried or somehow held by one of the teachers.

  • I teach preschool special ed and honestly it's the same photographers that shoot every other school, barely trained to interact with ANY kid.  We are always the ones talking to the photogs about how to interact with each kid.  I've spent a lot o
