Horse milk instead of formula....really?!?

I just found out that the hospital I'm delivering at (in Germany) suppliments newborns with MARE'S MILK instead of infant formula if the mom is having trouble/not breastfeeding! Apparently it's the closest thing to human milk around. Is it just me or is this a bit...oh, I don't know...unsavory? I'm sure it's fine and all, but....bleh.

If I pull up to the hospital and see stables around the back, I might bolt.

That would be my number one reason to try my hardest to nurse successfully!! That just sounds so icky.

Honestly, I think I'd prefer that over formula, but I'm pretty crunchy. We drink cow and goat milk, why not horse?

I have heard that in certain parts of the world they think donkey's milk is best for babies. Never heard of using horse's milk! Weird!
