My friend really wants a natural birth like I'm planning but she doesn't think she can because she has herpes. I told her that with support and awareness plenty of women have natural births with herpes, she said 'ya who?' I know there's some, has anyone here had a safe natural birth who has the herpes virus?

    The best thing to do is have her consult with her doctor and have an open and honest conversation about this.  Not all herpes are created equal, I know that in some cases if there's not a flare-up or whatever at the time of birth a natural birth *is*

    I don't know anyone who has had a vaginal birth with genital herpes (that I know of at least) but I do have a friend who has genital herpes that only ended up with a c-section because she happened to get an outbreak about a week before she had her baby

    It depends on if there are active lesions when she is term or not. If she has no active lesions, then she can deliver vaginally. Typically, the MD will prescribe her Valtrex around 36wks as prophylaxis against any flares. If she has active lesions, t
