Switching antidepressants

My OB and I decided that this is the best time to make the switch from Celexa to Zoloft. We're switching bc we both want to ensure the baby and I have a successful breastfeeding relationship and the levels of Zoloft in breast milk, and therefore the incidence of side effects in baby, are lower.

I have only ever taken Celexa (today is actually four years to the day) and have unsuccessfully attempted to wean off it twice in that time. I'll be taking both for a couple weeks (per my OB's instructions) while I wean off the Celexa but I'm still nervous bc of bad past experiences so I'm just curious about others' experiences with switching SSRIs, pregnant or not.

  • I'm taking Effexor XR and Xanax (anxiety and depression) and I'm have an appt with my doc to switch the effexor with something else, not sure what yet. I'm nervous.  Sorry that I can't really help, GL! let us know how it goes!

  • When switching to another SSRI I've never had any issues. Just when I come off of one without a backup. I'm sure everyone is different, but I hope it's an easy transistion for you. :)

  • I don't have a ton of experience switching ssri's but I will tell you that I love Zoloft! Hardly any side effects and it's a good drug that's been around a while. I've been on and off several medications for the past fifteen years and kept coming back to

  • I had just switched to a combo of zoloft and wellbutrin a couple months before I got pregnant. I've been on almost every other antidepressant before this and zoloft was by far my favorite.  I had the least side effects from zoloft and I felt like

  • I'm suprised your doctor said Zoloft isn't good for breastfeeding. It's actually one of the safest psych drugs for breastfeeding.

And for the person taking Xanax ... I'm really suprised by that too. That's a class d drug and is not considered

  • Thank you guys for all of the encouragement.

I was told to take one of each for the first three nights and after this I've got two weeks of taking half my celexa with the full dose of zoloft. I've got a terrible headache but that could be bl

I have lots of experience switching, but right now I too am beginning the process of switching off Celexa (to go back to Prozac which worked for me once but didn't after a while... we're hoping since it's been years it'll work again) since it's better

  • I took many, many different antidepressants before I was pregnant and found Celexa to be the best for me. I stopped all medications when I found out I was pregnant at my doctors advice but quickly went downhill. At about 15 weeks I was suicidal and deci
