BF and training for half marathon

I am training for my second half marathon and a little worried that it will affect my supply. Has anyone had experience with this? DD is 10 months. I am just starting to do the longer runs (did 8 miles over the weekend) and I keep picturing my milk supply evaporating as i sweat buckets! As long as i eat enough and stay well hydrated i should be fine right?

  • Well every person is different, but I ran a half marathon when DS (child #2) was 5 months old. Training didn't seem to affect my supply at all.

  • I didn't run a half-marathon while BFing, but I was probably at 30mpw when he was 10 months old.  I never had any supply issues.  I made sure to stay hydrated and probably ate more when he was 3-12 months old than I ever have in my life!

  • I think by 10 months you're probably fine on your supply anyway (as long as you stay hydrated and take in enough calories, but you already covered that).

    I ran a half at 3 months and didn't have any supply issues.  But after those longer run

  • I only had supply issues when I didn't hydrate or eat enough. Otherwise, everything was fine.

  • You've gotten some good info here. I just want to reiterate staying hydrated and keep your calories up. I wasn't in training but was running a ton when my twins were about 9/10 months. My supply would dip when I tried cutting calories. I nursed them to 12
