Lurky-loo-who need constipation help.

We've been struggling with constipation with DD for a long time.  At least the past 6 months.  She has a small anal fissure that occasionally bleeds.

This constipation started even before whole milk was introduced.  Whole milk hasn't necessarily made it worse, so I'm not sure if that is the problem.  Yogurt and cheese make it worse. My doc ok'd miralax to help, but she's been on it for close to two months now and while it does help, she still has rock solid poops.  Its so sad when she does poop those.  She screams, sticks her legs out straight, gets all sweaty, and tears streaming down her face.  I brought it up at her one year appt and the doc asked about her fluid intake and diet, which he said sounded fine, and then said that I should try to get her off the miralax.  Well, she is still having problems ON it. I'd like to get this figured out before I take her off.

So now my questions.  I'm contemplating switching to almond or coconut milk, but I'm not sure which.  Or, stopping whole milk, and replacing with yogurt and cheese, hoping the milk is the causing factor. Or should I get a second medical opinion because it shouldn't be this bad?

Sorry if that was rambly.  I'm just not sure what to do any more and my pedi is useless.

  • Have you tried prune juice mixed with the wcm? You could add prune juice with each wcm serving and see how it goes. Otherwise get a second opinion. Good luck!

  • We struggled with this with DD (actually, she still has some issues at age 3, but that is probably more than you want to know).  Sometimes once a child develops a problem with constipation and experiences pain they can begin to resist pooping and hol

  • We have given prune juice in the past. It does help somewhat, but she needs to drink a TON of it to do anything.  And I really just dont want her drinking that much juice.

I havent tried mixing it into her plain WM.

  • How much fruit does she eat in a day? I would totally cut out cheese, bananas, apples, applesauce, rice. Fill up on other fruits, and beans. I don't have any advice on coconut milk. I cook with it but don't drink it. I have heard that almond milk is

  • With Lucia we had to do peaches, pears, etc at every meal and at least 1I snack a day to make any difference. And cut bananas and apples and cheese completely out.

  • Our pedi OK'ed Phillips Milk of Magnesia to give to Anna for her constipation. I don't know how it differs from miralax, but it could be worth it to ask your pedi if they recommend it instead.

  • We have also been dealing with constipation issues, but not quite as bad as yours. She was eating prunes with every meal and we tried cutting out bananas, rice, apples, etc. DD was also put on Miralax and we were told to stayon it until she was going once
  • I guess I should add that most days she does go at least once a day.  But some days it is just very hard, rock like pellets.  Although some days she cries and its not even that hard.  :(

I just dont know what to do anymore.

  • In addition to the above suggestions, you can also try some watermelon. My daughter had some this weekend, and it definitely made her stools softer. Also, do you think if there were some sort of barrier between her bottom and the stools it would hurt less
  • Hmm. What type of barrier? Like a cream? Glycerin suppository to lube it on the way out?

We CD most if the time so Vaseline and desitin all the time wouldn't work. When she's in disposables I usually have desitin on her and I gross I know tr
