August 2011 Moms

For the love of updates: Otis

His eczema isn't any better.  It's getting worse.  The Zyrtec and Benadryl do nothing for managing his symptoms.

He wakes every morning with his face or forearms bleeding because he's been scratching in the MOTN.  His face is swollen and flaky.

The hydrocortisone no longer works for his small flare ups let alone his body wide rash.

I am beginning to think that something else is going on here.  I have an email in to the allergist, and I'm going to make an appointment to be seen by his PCP ASAP.

I'm posting a photo in hopes that maybe one of you has a suggestion.  He's had NO fever, a slight, clear runny nose and a slight cough.  The skin symptoms have persisted despite topical and oral meds for the last 2.5 weeks.  The cough, runny nose symptoms have been around about a week.

  • Another thing...  It makes it really hard to discipline him or do anything when he tantrums because I can't imagine that he feels OK.  I mean, this must itch, burn, irritate him and it has to affect his moodehavior.

  • Oh gosh. Is he too little for Singular? Ds has been on it since kindergarten, and I swear by it. What does he eat daily? Or most often?
  • My thought would be the same as yours, pretty much. But maybe....

It looks sort've like a malar rash. Has his pedi considered it could be an autoimmune issue?

I know this can be pricey, but maybe a mold inspector could come? Som

  • Oh sweetie. I hate to suggest this but have you thought of removing him from the environment for awhile? You mentioned dander and if I remember correctly you have quite a few cats and dogs...

Poor little man. Kisses from Gemma to Otis.

  • That poor little sweetheart.

Did the docs mention anything about the sun?  That pic reminds me so much of a condition that a few kids in my school have. I think I recall it being said it was an allergy to the sun, but I'm sure there's

  • Poor little guy. I'm useless on this subject, other than to say you may need to take him to the ER to get some IV steroids to help clear it up. Once the "big dogs" work the creams and oral meds may work better. Hope he's feeling better soon!

  • Have you tried stopping dairy for a couple of weeks? I know a couple of people with eczema who swear this made a huge difference for them.
