Baby Names

Charles/Chase

We're thinking of using DH's late dad's first name of Charles for our son.  However, for various reasons we don't really like the typical nicknames for Charles (Chuck, Chaz, Charlie).

Do you ladies think that Chase as a nn for Charles is too much of a stretch?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Charles/Chase

  • I don't know, but I love Chase! Could you do Chase and then use his dad's middle name for the middle name?

  • I don't think it's a stretch. Also NN doesn't have to be close to full name

  • I've never heard of doing this before... but, I kind of like it!  I think it works, and don't really thinks it's too much of a stretch. I love the formal first name, Charles, by the way.

    As far as I'm concerned, Chase IS a nickname for Charles and not a stand alone name.nbsp;

  • I think its great! Woderful that you are honoring a family member but keeping his name new and fresh at the same time. Go for it!
  • I think it works.  However, it makes me sad because I LOVE Charlie.

  • I'm not a fan of NNs that are a stretch from the original because it can cause confusion on formal documents and such. I LOVE the idea of Chase William as a nod to FIL. We considered doing something similar. My dad's name is Jonathan Frederick and we cons

  • I don't think Chase is a stretch at all as a nn for Charles. I also thought it was a given and known nn for Charles.

  • My Grandpa was Charles and so is my cousin (named after my gpa).  They both use Pete as their nickname - although it never really did make sense to me why!
