Who doesn't follow a routine/schedule?

I have frequently been called out by my non-child-having friends/family because I really try everything I can to keep to my LO's schedule/routine with respect to sleeping/naps, etc.  I am not typically a very regimented person, but both my kids seem to respond much better to a schedule, and I like the predictability, so I can schedule certain things.  As much as I think good sleep is important for the kids, if I'm honest with myself, I really keep the schedule for my benefit, not really for theirs.

This is not to say that I won't shift a nap or schedule something really important because of it being nap-time, but I'm curious about those who don't have any schedule and just follow their LO's cues.  What does that really mean or what does that look like?

The thought of trying to attend an event during my DD's naptime terrifies me.  I am pretty sure she would be a fussy disaster, and it wouldn't be very much fun.  Then she would probably fall asleep in the car on the ride home, be woken up after 20 minutes when we got home, would be unwilling to go back down for the rest of her nap, and would then be cranky the rest of the day.  Am I crazy?

  • I have always followed Ian's cues, which pretty much turned into a "schedule" of some sort. It's not a schedule of at 7am he eats, at 10am he naps, at 12pm he wakes up, at 12:30pm he has lunch, etc. He usually wakes up around the same time every morning

  • Skyler has always created her own schedule.  It doesn't shift much, but she is also pretty agreeable if it is changed.  We have taken her out during nap time and she falls asleep in the car and is fine when we arrive at our destination, just

  • We don't have an exact schedule but I try to plan things for after Madison's nap.  She usually sleeps somewhere around 10:30-12:30, then she has lunch so I try not to plan things before 1:00.  Sometimes family/friends get annoyed but oh well!&nb

  • If we are home we have kind of a schedule as in we eat meals about the same time and naps are around the same time but if we have somewhere to go or do or I decide we need to get out of the house we just go. With both my kids I made sure to get them out e
  • We try to maintain a schedule, but I'm not adamant about it. She has a routine at daycare and I try to mimic that on weekends, but I'll flex and do things like take her out and just try to ensure that she gets a nap in the car, etc. My big thing is bed ti

  • I will start this by saying that my hubby and I are aware that we are INCREDIBLY lucky, because we got the Jackpot Easy Baby.

We don't really follow a schedule. I mean, there are certain things that tend to happen in a window? Like, LO tend

  • Ben has always been pretty flexible about sleep, which has been awesome for us.  We definitely lucked out.  He normally sleeps about 3 hours after wake-up, but we can push that later generally without issue.  He is happy whenever we go o
