Won't sleep; crying a lot...

LO was a champion sleeper up until a day ago. He was sleeping almost through the night and took several long-ish (1-2 hr) naps throughout the day. But yesterday and today when he takes naps they are very short and he is crying a good bit. I wouldn't think much of it, but he just seems uncomfortable when he wakes himself or cries. Also, he won't fall asleep unless we are holding him. Should I worry about this or is it just normal? I wouldn't worry about it except that he wakes himself up arching his back, fussing, crying, and grunting....
