I did sleep training on my baby when he was 9 months old (now he's 11 1/2 months). This went great! The first 2 nights were not so great, but he was sleeping 11 hours straight by night 3! I was so thrilled!!
MOST of the time my baby does great! He sleeps 10-11 hours straight without getting up, or fusses just for 10 seconds while he repositions and then goes back to sleep until the morning. However, lately he has been doing this bit where he gets up after 4-5 hours and is crying until I come in. Usually I go in after 3-5 mins just to make sure he doesn't need his diaper changed...then I calmly tell him to go to sleep, like in the training. This only seems to make things worse, though!
He clutches my hand to try to prevent me from leaving, and when I do he cries even harder and then stands at the side of his crib
It is heartbreaking for me every time!!!!!!!!!!! And I'm almost to the point where I'm going to give up on any form of sleep training. On the other hand, I have to get up for work at 6 am, and besides I really do want him to sleep nicely!
The other part of this is, if he can't get back to sleep within about 20 minutes, then he stays up for 2 hours!!? I have tried everything, even the things you're not supposed to do during sleep training, like rocking (for hours on end...), tried giving a bottle, even tried letting him faux nurse (there's not much milk left, as I've switched to formula) - this doesn't even work! I really can't figure out what to do and can't keep up with the training (which I think should be past that point now anyway!).
Also I used to co-sleep with him when he was quite small, but I'm too afraid of him falling off the bed now that he's fully mobile. I even have nightmares that he's falling off the bed quite often...so that's not really an option.
Please help ladies!! TIA
Re: Sleep training problems - please help!!!!
Thanks ladies...I think you are right about the consistency. When I first started sleep training, I was extremely consistent, even though I was in the other room crying. And it did work. But when the problems came back over the
