DS has an opinion on baby's name

So my 2.5 year old son has a VERY strong opinion on his baby sister's name. Like it's not even a question in his head. When presented with The name and another name he always picks The name.  When presented with two options that don't include The name he looks at me funny.  When I ask, "what's your baby sister's name?" he'll answer The name as if it's the most obvious thing in the world.

He also had NO DOUBT that this baby was a girl long before any of us actually knew. He's a pretty sensitive/"in tune" kid.

The name happens to be one of our top contenders. So... how much weight would you give DS's opinion?

Re: DS has an opinion on baby's name

  • I think that's really cool that he "knew" he was having a sister. If it's a contender, and you really like it too (and H of course) I would see nothing wrong with going with it. Kids adjust well to changed expectations... I was convinced at age 5 my mo

To this day, me and my father disagree over who actually named my youngest sister. Her name is Samantha, and I said I got the name from the TV Show 'Who's the Boss'...he claims he named her though. lol. I say he is wr

  • I would just use positive reinforcement with him ex: "Wow, you're so creative!" or "You must love your little sister a bunch to think of names for her" but gently explain that moms and dads give the baby a name, just like you gave him a name. It's the

  • I would definitely give some weight to his opinion, especially since it's a top contender name.

My nephew wanted to name my niece Sophie Emily Thomas. Had I been my sister, I might have given in to that one too...

  • How does it make you feel when he says what her name is? It may be a good gut check for yall to help make the choice. Did you have a reaction like, YES that is her name, or did it make you kinda/slightly/inexplicably a bit sad?
