DS is in 2nd grade - there are 22 kids in his class. Yesterday there were 10 kids absent, including DS, with illnesses. Most of them have similar symptoms to my DS. He had a low grade fever yesterday no fever today and is feeling better but still congested so I kept him home. I would say he would be fine to go back to school tomorrow based on how he is feeling today. But I emailed the teacher to find out about schoolwork and she said they have 9 out still today, but she has sent three other kids to the nurse today, so that makes 12 sick kids. She also said she is not feeling well and will probably be leaving early, so she may not be able to leave his books out for me to pick up for him.
So now I am thinking maybe I just keep him home an extra day instead of sending him back into this germ vortex. Or maybe he has already gotten whatever is going around so it doesn't matter? I am not usually one to be paranoid about this sort of thing, but we have never had over half his class out with sickness either. WWYD?
Re: Keep DS home an extra day?
I would call the pedi. They'll probably be able to tell you what he had (if there are that many sick kids, I'm sure every pedi's been slammed) and if he's at risk to catch it again or if he's built up a resistance to it.

Yeah. It's that time of year. I'm sitting here typing this while my 8th graders sneeze, sniffle, and cough their way through a quiz on Romeo & Juliet.
