Son hates eating solids

Hi,

We started feeding our son solids about 3 weeks ago...maybe a month ago now. He hates it! I've tried feeding him solids after the bottle which what was recommended to me by a local nurse but he has no interest or cries. Then I tried feeding him most of his bottle, then solids, then the rest of his bottle and he freaks out. I've tied feeding him before after his bottle and he freaks out too but sometimes he is much more receptive this way but he still freaks out most of the time. I've given a good 4 days in between introducing anything new. He has had rice cereal, carrots, green beans, prunes and barley cereal. He does seem to swallow some now versus just spitting it all back out but he is miserable about it. I sing and make a game out of it and that is the only way I can get him to eat some. Anyone else have this problem? Does it get better? Do you have suggestions? HELP!Tongue Tied

  • Are you currently spoon feeding purees?

Maybe look into baby led weaning and see if it is something you feel comfortable with. It would allow him to explore at his own pace and feed himself.

  • We had similar issues.  I gave it a rest for awhile since it was so draining on me.  I agree with PP about looking into BLW.  We did start purees again just last week and he seems more receptive to it now (a month later).  Also, I allo

  • Yeah we are hitting the pause button on solid foods, because I really don't think he's quite ready yet. I've tried many different approaches and it's just not happening. Some babies aren't into it until closer to 7-8 months, so we'll take a

  • I agree with just about everyone here.  Give yourself (and your little one) a break from the solids.  He may just not be ready yet, and at this point, you aren't doing it for the nutrition, just the practice.  We tried shortly before he was
  • Are you feeding him jar baby food or making your own? I have found my daugher hated the jar kind, and will eat it better if it is something that we are having.

  • My suggestion is to just keep trying. My LO was the same way, we tried starting at 5 months and he wouldn't have it so then we very slowly started again at 6 months. At 6 months he did great and would eat everything that I offered for ab

  • My daughter will be 8 months next week and she still isn't really taking solids. We started trying after her 6 month appointment and she wanted no part of it so I gave it a break for a few weeks. She seemed a bit better starting up again, but still turn
  • My oldest DS was like this. He never ended up taking to liking/ingesting baby foods.  If we got one spoonful down the hatch, it was a good day.  We ended up just doing baby led weaning as he was interested.  Try not to stress out about it.&
