September 2012 Moms

Feeling like I'm failing at motherhood lately.

DD has been eating horribly, sleeping horribly at night, and napping even more horribly than usual during the day.

She spends 90% of her day miserable because she's overtired, yet fights sleep for over 45 minutes, whether I put her down the second she shows sleepy cues, or when she's bordering on exhaustion.

She goes down well at night, but wakes 10 times per night, a lot of the time.

Feeding her is a nightmare.  Up until recently, she took 4, 7oz. bottles without issue. Now, she stops eating, and turns her head every 30 seconds while eating, before she eventually stops eating altogether.  The pedi increased her reflux meds, but it hasn't helped.  I've tried giving her 5, 6oz. bottles but she won't take more than 2-3oz from the extra bottle.

I realize I'm fortunate that I can stay home with her, but lately I've been wanting to go back to work, just so some of these issues can fall on the shoulders of a DCP.

Sorry for the vent, H just doesn't get it, and none of my close friends are married, let alone mothers. I am just emotionally exhausted.

  • I'm sorry you feel this way. Hopefully things will get better soon. I really have no advice but just hang in there! It should get better! My LO also sleeps terribly and finally last night was the first time he only woke up 3x instead of the usual 9 i

  • Judging from your siggy pics, you totally are not failing.

Hugs to you. I don't have any super suggestions, but can you get away for a little time? Maybe this weekend, just take a few hours to yourself to reset? I know sometimes that helps me.</p

  • I am right there with you but I can assure you neither of us are failing!! I could've written this exact post and you know I posted two weeks ago about maybe wanting to go back to work because I felt I wasn't cut out to be a SAHM.

    Just know

  • I'm having feeding issues with D as well.

Not to sound creepy but would you want to have a GTG in oneonta? I'm about an hour and 45 minutes from there, maybe 2hrs.

I understand what it's like not to have close friends understan
  • Big hugs mama, being a SAHM  is HARD WORK.  Keagan was SUCH an easy baby compared to Colby.  I totally hear you on the cranky/ sleepy baby.  Colby fights sleep SO hard, then will only catnap all day and wakes up all hours of the night.

I've had a totally distracted eater lately too and I think it contributes to my son's terrible sleeping habits. So, you're not alone! I'm in this unfortunate club with you! ;]

I actually look forward to going to work some days because I just

Thanks for all of the advice and support ladies.  It's always good to be reminded that I'm not alone!

  • I could have written this, except DS does not even go to sleep well initially! He does eat okay though. I'm not okay with CIO either, at least at this point. Check in with me in about a year!
I have been feeling like a failure too. You're not alone

  • I'm sorry you are feeling like that, but I think most of us feel like that often so you are in great company.

  • Hugs!!! That sounds awful. Does she have an ear infection, maybe? That can cause eating and sleeping issues. Ds had one we didn't know about when he was younger. Is she upset about the temperature or the nipple flow? Does elevating the mattress help at al

  • I'm so sorry you're feeling this way! You're definitely not failing and I'm sure some of these issues are just phases that she'll outgrow! Hang in there! The hours are long but the days are short and this too shall pass.
