One Sided Nursers...Help

Back Story: My son will be 5 weeks tomorrow. At first I nursed on both sides. Then he stopped taking the second side when I offered so I stopped offering it. Well after a week and a half of one sided nursing I alternated breasts each feeding he started getting agitated and pulling at my breast like he wasn't getting any milk. I felt like my supply had decreased and went back to offering both, which he took. He stopped getting agitated and I became full again. Well now he seems to be full after the first side.

My question to you moms who nurse on one side at a time is what do you do about the other side? Pump it? Wait until the next feeding?

As always, thanks in advance!!

  • Unless ds is cluster feeding, I have never fed him from both sides. I just alternate sides every feeding.

  • It's like you read my mind! I was pumping for the past 4 weeks after coming home from the hospital and having the stomach virus for 4 days. I couldn't bear to put my daughter on my breast while I had a fever and an awful body ache. I began pumping and the
  • DD usually only eats off one side at a time except in the evenings when she cluster feeds. I just wait til the next feeding and she eats from the one she didn't eat off of before.

  • Your supply will regulate. I would not pump after every feeding, you'll cause an oversupply which is not pleasant. I pump once a day, usually in the morning from the side he didn't take.

  • I was nursing both sides for the first week but I was having a hard time...my supply seemed low. Once I started one sided I generally don't have a problem with my supply. Although DD seems to eat forever because she eats slow! I pump both sides but I only

  • Interesting... the nurses taught me to have her nurse for 10-15 minutes from each side and then to go back to the side she left off on during the next feeding. I can't get her to eat for more than 10 minutes on one side at 5 weeks old.... When I pump she
  • E seems to nurse off both. He will completely drain one side then will take a few nibbles off the other. Its perfectly ok for me because if he only eats off one then I am literally in agony on the other side until he gets hungry. Also, the full side will

  • I only nurse one side and I NEVER pump. I dont see a reason too unless I need to build a stash. Im a SAHM, so I dont worry about freezer milk. I let her nurse on one side as long as she wants, (usually about 10-15 min) and then I offer the other side (she
