One kidney

Hi,

 I am expecting twins and during my 20 week ultrasound it was discovered that one of the babies only has one kidney.  Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this? Thank you!

  • My friend's daughter was born with only one kidney. They thought she might have other issues, but she is a perfectly healthy, active five-year-old.

  • My older son was born with two, but one doesn't work very well if at all.  The bad one had severe reflux that was repaired at around 21 months.  He's 3.5 now and should be able to lead a perfectly normal life with no restrictions.  
  • My son was also born with two, but one was prenatally diagnosed as not functioning. His body reabsorbed the "bad" kidney within the first 12 months of his life. He's 20 months now, and there have been no issues with only one kidney. DS's nephrologist said
