November 2013 Moms

Midwife vs. OB/GYN

Hi Ladies,

I am nearly 6 weeks pregnant and am looking for a healthcare provider.  I had a missed micarriage in December 2012, discovered at my first appointment with an OB/GYN.  My insurance recently changed and my previous doctor is no longer in network.  I now have the option of choosing a midwife or OB/GYN within the same practice.  I am just wondering what most of you have chosen.  I don't know if having one previous miscarriage makes me "high risk" and requires an OB/GYN.  I am especially curious to know what you PGAL November moms are doing!

I am seeing a midwife (CNM) with hospital privileges. Midwives have statistically better outcomes and lower rates of c/s than OBs in the US and I have no need at this point for a

  • Thanks for all of your great responses! I ended up scheduling with OB, but they could not get me in until nearly 11 weeks! The midwife could have seen me at 8 weeks. I'm frustrated that I can't see the doctor sooner, but I know it is partly my fault for w
