For those who just sold or are for sale

Am I just not "getting" staging?  This is my house.  It's actually just my floorplan that's for sale down the street.  I don't know how much of this is personal preference and actual decor vs. plain staging.  In any event, it makes me twitchy...  Is this done well?  Like, if you walked in, would you feel overwhelmed by clutter or would you appreciate the decor even if it's not your style?

  • I have not sold a house, but I do watch a lot of HGTV lol. I feel like that is too many personal knickknacks. A vase of flowers or something is fine all the bottles everywhere drives me crazy, I do not like clutter at all and I feel like it draws att

  • I personally cannot see behind stuff in a house.

Like, when we were looking for rentals I would not consider photos of homes that had furniture or belongings in them. I need to see the clean slate.

  • The less stuff the better! People want to picture their stuff there and it's easier when it's empty

We had NOTHING on the counters or tables except flowers. Nothing on dressers and no personal photos. It sold in 19 days in a tough market at
  • Too much. Number one rule is to depersonalize it. People can't look past the knick knacks and such.
  • We just bought a home a few months ago. I think if I walked in and saw that, I would have a hard time looking past it. WAAAY too much clutter. There isn't a square foot of empty counter along that wall.

  • I'm also pretty good at looking beyond other people's "stuff", however, if I walked into that house I would side eye these people's poor taste in decor. But it wouldn't stop me from buying their house.

If I were you I would eliminate as much of

  • Way too much going on in that house!!!

We took down all personal pictures, except a few baby ones of the boys. I took down all other pictures and put white plates, mirrors, and chalkboards.

The counter tops should have nothing

  • That's awful. I can look beyond some stuff, but I would always be thinking about all of that crap.

I don't mind some stuff, but I don't want to be able to imagine the specific people who lived there.

  • One more thing:

When I see pictures like that, I can't help but wonder, if they couldn't be bothered to clean up before taking pictures (or a showing), I wonder how much effort they've put into maintaining their home in general...
