Toddlers sharing room

I know I have seen this asked before, but I can't find it.  I have a 2.5 year old and 14 month old who will need to share a room in the near future.  I am 30 weeks pregnant.  My plan had been that we will keep the baby in our room for 1 to 2 months (as we did with both girls) and then move the girls in together so we can have a room for the baby.

Any advice on the timing of the move?  Would it be easier to move them earlier or later?  Also, I am concerned about them waking each other up.  Both girls are pretty good about putting themselves to sleep, but the 14 month old wakes up pretty often at night, as in getting up at like 3am, needing a dry diaper, and taking 20ish minutes to go back to sleep.  The 14 month old will stay in a crib, while the 2 year old who is now in a converted (open on one side) crib will upgrade to a bed.

I am also worried about naps.  Every since potty training kicked in 2 months ago, my oldest will often times not really stay in her bed to sleep, because she knows that she is allowed to get up to use the potty.  Any advise is appreciated!

  • i would probably try it sooner than later. my kids are both pretty sound sleepers and generally don't wake up to the other's cries but if they don't adjust quickly you can get a white noise machine to drown out the sound.

  • When DD2 turned 1 we moved her from our room to share with DD1. They have a queen bed they share sideways.

Going to bed takes a little longer if they are going down at the same time so I generally offset them by 15-20 minutes which is enough for
