One & Done: Only child

When did you...

Make the decision to be one and done?

A friend, who has 3 children and wants 1 more, asked when we were thinking about having another. I told her that were done, and I'm completely fulfilled with just ds. She doesn't know half of our fertility struggles, and I didn't get into that. She told me that since ds is only 7 months old, I shouldn't be able to make such a big decision yet.

We made the decision to be one and done before pregnancy, and even before we started TTC.

Re: When did you...

  • It was before I got pg with DS when H was the BF and we were talking about "what if's"...I said for a long time I hadn't wanted any children but I could see myself having one. I'm very content.

  • We were fairly certain but decided to wait a year just in case we changed our minds. DHs first appointment for his vasectomy was on ds's first birthday. It was performed three weeks later.

  • DH wanted to be one and done from the start, but was willing to have two since that's what I originally desired.

Then life happened and it became very obvious to us that we will be a complete family of three.

It took IVF to bring us our bab

  • I never wanted any more than one. When I was in my 20's I wasn't sure if I would ever have any children. I always laugh when people try to tell me that I'll change my mind.

  • We made the decision before we TTC.   I was 38 when we married and we discussed children when we got engaged. Because of our age and lack of financial stability, we decided we'd be one and done from the get go.

  • We both had some one and done thoughts during our roller coaster pregnancy, but I think for DH it was after the PPA hit me that he was on the bandwagon for sure and for me, it was a little later.  Probably when DS turned a year old I realized I just
  • I am an only child and always thought I wanted 2.  When I was pregnant, DH started talking about maybe only wanting 1.  We went back and forth during my pregnancy, but after DD was born we decided within the first few months that our family was
  • DH & I pretty much always knew we only wanted one child.

We live in a HCOL area, so more than one child would require us to make lifestyle changes that we would really rather not.

  • 3 years ago.  We were originally not planning on having any children, but decided to give it a shot and try for 1.  Neither of us are interested in 2.  When I was first pregnant, we were sooooo hoping it wasn't twins!
