Short Baby Naps...(NTR)

If you had a catnapper as an infant - when did their naps start to get longer/more consolidated.

DS2 (will be 8 months in a couple of days) still seems to not have any solid nap patten/times.

We generally aim for 2 naps a day - very rarely he takes 2 longer ones (1.5 hours each). Actually - that seems to happen when my mom watches him - never on the days I'm home with him. Sigh...

Some days I feel like I get one long one and one short one (30-45 mins). Most of the time it's two 45 minute naps. Boo!

Because he's such a crappy napper he goes to bed really early - generally 6 or 630pm and STTN (thank god!) until 545 or 6am.

For the most part - I would say like 75% of the time he's generally happy when he's awake and not too cranky (even if he wakes up crying/still tired) once he's fed and he's kept busy by keeping up with DS1.

Should I just try to not worry about the short naps at this point and just be thankful he is STTN and push towards 1 nap a day in a few months.

I'm just at a loss since even though DS1 cat napped as a baby - by the time he was 6 months old he was on a super solid 2 long nap a day schedule and stayed that way until 15 months!

  • Ava was NEVER a good napper. When she was on two naps a day, they were each usually 30 or 40 minutes. She dropped her morning nap at 12 months (kill me) and then took one 45 minute nap per day for about a month. That gradually stretched to about 1.5 hours

  • At 8 mo DS was pretty consistently taking two 45-min naps most of the time. By 1 year he dropped to one nap, though it did for the most part increase in length. And didn't decrease over time -- sometimes he can even take a 2 hr nap, esp at home. But so

  • Maybe 9 months he finally moved to 2 naps?  They were both pretty short though 45min and sometimes an hour.  Little B, sleep for Mommy!!!

  • I'm assuming I will push for 1 nap sooner rather than later since it would be nice to be more on DS1's schedule and be able to get out all morning.

He does get a bit cranky some evenings, but an early bedtime seems to really help. Plus then

  • J was always a cat napper. Most naps were about 45 minutes. He rarely napped more than an hour. Most nights he was in bed for the night before 6 and STTN.
Before his 2nd bday, J dropped his naps at home. He still naps at dc, but even then it is

  • Both boys settled into a 3 nap schedule by 6 months. Two long.. Meaning an hour or longer, and one short. At nine months they each dropped that 3rd short nap. Basically they would play or fuss for the half hour so I knew to drop it.

B was a catnapper forever. Around a yearish it got a bit better.  We switched to 1 nap a day at 14 months.  I think it was a little early for him, but that was the schedule in the next room up at daycare.  After one weekend of using his

  • Bs naps were always terrible. They were always 30 min naps. I'd say in the past few weeks his naps have gotten a bit better. Hes around 7.5 months. He'll nap for 2 hours in the morning and then have a half hour nap in the afternoon. I wish that after
