Anemia

We just found out our DS is severely anemic. The doctors were surprised because he doesn't have any symptoms but the bloodwork doesn't lie.

I forgot to ask if this is something permanent. Does anyone know? Ill ask at our two week blood check of course but I'm curious.

Anyone have any experience with this?

  • Very treatable! We had that diagnosis at discharge from the hospital. They had me give her a daily vitamin - Poly vi-sol with Iron. About a month later, her levels were fine. They will probably recommend an iron supplement, and you can try to make sure he

  • Echoing PP.  Both my kids were diagnosed anemic (one was so low he was actually enrolled in a study at the hospital), they took iron for months (slowly rolled back when they went on formula full time).  Their levels were just checked last week -
  • My LO got constipated from the Iron. We found that the Enfamil brand of the multivitamins has glycerine as the first ingredient which helps to counterbalence that.

  • Thanks everyone. We are still waiting for all the blood test results but we are supposed to give him iron drops two times a day. The dr told us to give them with juice for the vitamin c. It was a disaster. He's never had juice and he hated it. What kid

  • My LO takes Poly-vi-sol daily and we were told she will for at least the first year. She hated it at first, but I put it in breastmilk and she drinks it right down now!
