Powdered formula OK for newborn?

We've had to start supplementing with formula since I'm not producing enough breast milk to keep up with my big boy.  The hospital gave us ready to us Enfamil and that's what we've been using but we'd like to switch to the powdered form. Is this okay to do?  For some reason I've heard that powdered isn't as good for newborns.  Any truth to this?

  • Same here, issues with latching and my LO has been on powdered formula the entire time.  My ped just wanted to make sure it was milk based.
  • I was a nanny long before I became a parent and the parents always used powder.  I think it's fine!
  • I had to supplement when DD was born and used powdered formula that my pedi gave me. It's perfectly fine.
  • We use powder. I like it much better.

  • Powdered formula isn't "sterile" so it isn't given to premies. Hospitals mostly use the pre-mixed kind in the single serve bottles because of this. Unless you are concerned about germs or your baby arrived early I wouldn't worry.

  • My LO was low birth weight and had a bad reaction to the powdered formula. Her pedi said she'd prefer her on sterile liquid for now until she is growing better and her tummy settles. I think it is on a case by case basis. If your baby is healthy and toler

  • Our ped said powdered was better because ds would get fluoride from the tap water that he wouldn't get from the rtf.
  • Ready to feed is mixed precisely while there can be some inconsistency with mixing powdered. But you should be fine.
