thumb sucking

Looking for ideas on how to stop my 2 1/2 year old from sucking his thumb.  He is an aggressive sucker and is pushing his top teeth out and bottom teeth in with the thumb sucking so we need to break this habit soon.

I have seen the product THUM at the pharmacy but it looks like a nail polish equivalent and I'm not crazy about him putting those chemicals in his mouth either. 

I've also seen the device that straps on his hand and I guess if I can't find anything else I will go that route.

Just wondering if you ladies have any suggestions on something a little more edible but bad tasting that might help.

    From experience it seems to me that positive reinforcement has worked better than negative reinforcement for most of my patients. Although there are negative consequences to thumb sucking at a young age, most but not all will self correct if the habit is

    Hey OP when you find out what worked for you, please let me know!

    My 2 1/2 year old still sucks her thumb.  She only does it to sleep but she sucks on it HARD at night.  She has a nasty callous on her thumb from it.  She actually k
