My little snugabunny - when did you start using it?

Hi everyone,

DD is about a week and a half old and I tried putting her in it for the first time yesterday... she cried like I've never seen her cry before!   She hated it!   The second I took her out and held her she calmed right down. I was so surprised because I'd heard so many good things about this swing and was psyched when I got it at my shower.

Anyway, so I'm wondering if any STMs have any advice.  At what age did you start using it?  Did your baby need to get used to it, or did he/she take to it right away?

It's probably the most expensive gift I received, and it takes up a lot of space, so it seems like a waste if she doesn't actually like being in it... I'm wondering how much time I should give it before attempting to return it or sell it if she really doesn't like it.

 Thanks for your help!

  • My son loved his swing for the first 3 weeks, then hated it until last week (he is now 10 weeks). So don't give up yet! He now loves it for naps.

  • Maybe it's too fast bc he's so little? When dd was that little I draped a heavy blanket over the bottom to drag ground and slow it down.

  • it did seem to be going fast, even at the slowest speed... I'll try it again in a week or two and see how she responds.  Thanks!
  • Honestly, DS didn't really love his crib until he was about two months, maybe even a little older. We then used it every single day until he was able to figure out how to sit up in it (6 months or so). But for those 4 months of use, it was worth every pen

  • We bought it when DS was about 3 weeks old, IIRC. He loved it from the beginning. We used it daily until he was 6 months old and the motor died. (Fisher-Price sent a replacement motor at no charge, thank goodness.)
  • We put DD in it from day 1 home from the hospital and used it until she was 6m old or so.  Some babies just hate swings.  Did you try swinging it in both directions?

  • I only tried the swing going right to left.... I think our main problem/blessing is that she just wants to be on me all the time!   She loves falling asleep on my chest and won't sleep in the crib either.  But then, she's only 2 weeks old tomorr
