C-sections

Burning on left side of incision... Anyone else?

I had a csection this past wednesday due to some complications.

I just came home from hospital yesturday.

Currently, I feel great but I'm getting this AWFUL burning feeling on the left side on my insicion. It hurts so bad and the pain killers do not help this feeling.

It's worse when I get up and move. But I still have it when I'm sitting.

Anyone else have this? How long did it last?

Re: Burning on left side of incision... Anyone else?

  • If you're concerned, you should have your OB check it out. However, with both of my c/s, I had much worse pain on one side. With DD1 it was on the right and with DD2 it was on the left. Whenever I would push myself too much by getting up too often, walking too much (especially while carrying a DD), then the sore side really started to burn. For me, it was my body telling me to slow down. If I took it easy and rested more, then it got better. I don't remember how long it lasted with DD1, but with DD2 it was about a week and got progressively better. Even now if I push myself too much (we went on a 2-hour walk a week ago and I had DD2 in the Ergo the whole time), it still hurts, but really that's my own fault for not doing things in a little more moderation this close to the c/s!

  • I had burning on one side as well. It got worse after I removed the steri strips and I noticed a little drainage from my incision site. My ob put me on antibiotics to be safe but she wasn't overly concerned of an actual infection. But I will say, the burning subsided within 2 days of treatment. So who knows?

  • I had a burning on my right side.  The nurses thought it was caused by the staples, but it didn't improve once the staples were removed.  The next guess was that an internal stitch was pulling.  The burning was gone by two weeks PP, so it probably was an internal stitch.

  • I had this.  It felt like I had been branded with a hot iron on the right side of my incision.  It was much worse when I walked a bit.  It finally subsided after 3 weeks.  I found an ice pack helped immensely.

  • Ironically, stretching seems to help mine. The burning sensation started after i got home and would increase when I pushed myself too hard. Taking the painkillers helped a bit but also stretching my stomach also helped, not so much to cause harm but just enough to "get the kinks out". Remember, your body is healing double- from spending 9 months stretching and also from surgery- so take it easy and good luck.
  • I have the same feeling on the right side. I asked my OB about it and she said it can be from inflammation and micro-tears. She said it is on one side because that is the side she was on during the surgery, so that side was likely pulled on more.

  • I'm almost three weeks PP and I had this sensation, too. For the first week and a half or so, my right side would hurt significantly more than my left side, especially if I didn't rest enough on a particular day. I was told that it was probably my internal incision resulting from stretching my muscles, etc. The 'burning' went away at about two weeks PP, but from time to time I'm still sore on that side. Good luck with your recovery!

  • I had intense pain on the left side of my incision with DD3. After a couple weeks I realized it was getting worse and not better. I had DH look at it since I couldn't see it at all... come to find out one of the steri strips was too tight and the skin was severely chafed from being folded over. DH sterilized a pair of scissors and cut the steri strip and it got better almost immediately.

I do have to say as much as I trust DH and love him... it was terrifying to lay still as he used scissors that close to my fresh incision!!! ;)
