Refuse 3 hr glucose test?

Has anyone ever done this?  I just got my 1 hr results back and i failed by 2 points.  I am requesting that I take another 1 hr test to make sure before committing to a 3 hr test.  I puked at my last test with my DD and this time I felt nauseous but didn't puke.  I also don't do well with needles (i tend to pass out) and the thought of getting 4 blood draws in one morning freaks me right the f#(k out!  I know I can out right refuse any of these tests and that's not my intention but I really think I'd pass if I was allowed another 1 hr test first.  My test was at 3 pm and I didn't fast or anything so obviously this time I would get a morning test and fast.

Please tell me I'm not a bad mom for thinking like this.

  • Take the 3 hour. It is possible to have GD even if you only fail by 2 points.

    I agree. I

  • I would suck it up and do the 3 hour test, but since you are so worried about it, ask your OB what he/she thinks. It can't hurt.

I wouldn't refuse, I'd do what my doctor recommended. Which is most likely to take the test.

I failed the 1h with DD1 by one point. One. I still went ahead with the 3h with no complaints because finding out if GD was looming was more importan

  • I personally would take the 3 hr test.  Not to scare you but GD is a serious issue if left untreated and can cause major problems for you and the baby.  The further along you are in pregnancy the higher your surgars go, that is why they test

  • I'm sure you could but it would be easier (and better for you and the babe) if you just took the three hour than potentially retaking the one hour and then taking the three hour anyway if you fail again.  Most people who fail the one

It's four needle pokes for the health surety of your baby. I'd just do it

I wanted to add that I totally get your anxiety about the four blood draws, being a fainter myself, and having a total blood pressure crash at the 1 hr that took me a long while to recover from. I too asked my doctor if I could retake the 1 hr instead of

  • It seems I'm the lone dissenter.  I don't understand non-fasting blood sugar tests.  The test is supposed to measure "How does the patient's body react to x amount of glucose?"  If I fast and you don't and you had anything to eat that da

  • I'm not saying this to be a b*&%h, but you've given birth once and you signed up to do it again. If you can make it through childbirth, you can have four blood draws in 3 hours. It sucks, but it goes with the territory.<span class="Apple-tab-span" sty

  • I am repeating my one hour, but only because I barely passed the first time.  The cut off was 139 and my results came back at 136.  I'd go ahead and do the 3 hour...you may have to end up doing it anyway.

  • I'd personally just do it. Its not fun, but its for the benefit of your baby and much more accurate than the 1  hour test.

  • I would definitely take the 3 hr. I have a friend who barely failed the 1 hr, like within 4 points, and she failed the 3hr badly. She now has to take insulin 3 times a day and at 35 weeks, baby was measuring almost 7lbs.

  • If would take the 3 hour test because I would want to know for certain. If i decided for some reason not to, then I would assume I have GD and follow A diabetic diet for the rest of my pregnancy.

  • The glucose screen isn't standard here, fwiw.  If you don't have any precursors, haven't gained a lot of weight, or don't have any other symptoms, it's probably not the end of the world.  You can also ask for regular urine dips to test for
