C-sections

2 C-Sections in less then 2 years...

So I just found out I'm pregnant again. This one was not planned.... That being said. Oliver will be around 18 months when this one is born. Has anyone here had 2 c/s in less then 2 years? I remember with my first one I was told to wait at least a year and a half before trying so my body would heal right... I don't see the doctor til Friday. I'm sure they will answer all my questions, but I'm curious now. This will also be my 3 c/s... So that makes me a little nervous.

Re: 2 C-Sections in less then 2 years...

  • There is some concern with the placenta attachment to the incision area. That is what I was told when I asked my doctor. I ended up misscarrying that baby and so now this one is more than 2 years later.

  • I did. I had my first 3 c-sections in 3 years. My 4th was almost 4 years after the 3rd.

I didn't have any issues at all.

  • I just had my second c/s almost 22 months after the first. After my first they told me to wait a year before getting pregnant again, and this time around they told me the same thing even though the reason for the 2nd c/s was that I had a beginning rupture (I had been planning on VBACing). When I asked, though, whether I would have less risk of another rupture if I waited, say 18 months before getting pregnant again, the OB said that waiting several more years would make a difference, but there's really no difference between waiting 1 year or 2. Your OB might have a different opinion, but I had 2 of the hospital OBs tell me this, so that's what I'm going with.

BFP1: DD1 born April 2011 at 34w1d via unplanned c/s due to HELLP, DVT 1 week PP
    BFP2: 3/18/12, blighted ovum, natural m/c @ 7w4d
BFP3: DD2 born Feb 2013 at 38w4d via unplanned RCS due to uterine dehiscence

  • No answers for you, just a buddy who can related here : just found out I'm 6 weeks along with 2, 1 is 9 months. Hopefully the OBs won't yell at us ;
  • And that should say relate, not related.
  • I will be. I had my first in August of 2011 and I am having my second on April 16th. So far, no problems. The Dr. said it was good that I waited a year before ttc (actually waited 11m). My placenta is in the back though, so it isn't on the scar. Either way, I had a placental abruption with my first pregnancy at 31w, that's without any previous scar tissue, so it can happen no matter what.

  • I got pg 4 months pp with Lucas and I had an uneventful pregnancy with him. My dr only tells her c/s patients to wait 6 months.

  • I asked my Dr. after my emergency c-section with DS. He said the typical school of thought is to wait a year, but recently that is changing to a year total, including gestation of the second. So waiting three months before you get pregnant. I'm sure different doctors have different opinions. Either way I'm in the same boat as you!

I had a small abruption w/ c/section #2 but it was NOT related to the closeness in surgeries.  No issues otherwise and my OB was not concerned at all.  If you wanted to try for a VBAC they will likely not allow that.  It's usually recommended you wait 18-24 months in between pgs for that.

  • I had 2 back to back...my LO are 14 months apart.  Mine were both planned.  I had absolutely no problems with either of my c-sections.  My first was an emergency c-section at 31 weeks pregnant but the 2nd one was at 37 weeks.  Both mine went very very well!

  • I had my 2nd c/s almost exactly 18 months after my first. My doctor didn't seem very concerned not much she could do!
My recovery was actually a lot better with the second. I was moving and up maybe more than I should have been soon after and by the time I was home I felt almost fully recovered besides the pain at incision.

  • I asked my Ob at my 6 week PP checkup when I could get pregnant again and he said whenever I felt ready. He had no qualms when I came in at 5 months PP for my 8 week checkup. I had an uneventful second pregnancy. My recovery was difficult with #2 but it was nothing due to the pregnancies spaced close--it started with a botched spinal and averse reactions to medications didn't help matters any.

My ob said that most of the healing is done in the first 6 weeks PP of the uterus. There was a heightened risk of rupture but since it happens in less than 1% of the population he (nor I) felt that was compelling enough to make me wait. He did advise me to continue eating healthy/taking vitamins to help avoid vitamin deficiencies and I had no issues with that.

  • There is 23 months between DD1 and DD2. There will be 18 months between DD2 and DD3. all three are CS. They shouldn't be too upset because there's not much that can be done at this point so it's kind of moot. They didn't say anything to me about the spacing, and even said an 18 month gap is okay to VBAC but since I'd be VBA2C they weren't comfortable with it. They also said we'll discuss LO#4 after they see how DD3's CS goes.
