Trouble TTC

New here -- abnormally low FSH level?

Hi,

This is my first post here, though I've been lurking.  I hope I'm in the right place.  I'm a long time nestie but prefer to go anon here.

I'm 35, H is 40.  We've been TTC for over 18 months, though I wasn't religiously charting for most of that time, mostly just going by CM and conventional wisdom.  Random charts seemed normal however.  My periods are regular.  Every 26 days, medium-ish flow.   But I only have one ovary because when I was 24, a cyst grew too big and they had to remove the whole thing.

We kept putting off getting checked out because life kept getting in the way.  Finally got the ball rolling in December and set up appts.  The way our insurance works (Kaiser) - I have to get the 3 day and 22 day tests done, H has to get his SA, then we set up an appointments with the RE.

In November my GYN told me to start using an OPK.  Since January, positive signs on that have synced with my charts.  Then right before I started using the OPK, I had a chemical pregnancy.  Things went back to normal right away, cycle wise, but to err on the side of caution, I was advised to wait a couple months to get bloodwork done.

So yesterday I finally had my bloodwork done.  My day three results came electronically last night, and my FSH levels are 1.1.  The estriol level just says "< 50."  (No other tests run yet)

It'll be a while before I can talk to my doctor, so I had to consult Dr. Google, which says my FSH is abnormally low, and my estriol level doesn't seem high enough to be causing it to be suppressed so much.

Despite my ovarian cyst 10 years ago, I have none of the other symptoms of PCOS.  (I'm overweight, but very hourglassy)  I've asked doctors about it over the years, and none have thought that I have it.

And the other things on the internet seem to suggest that very low FSH can signal that you aren't ovulating for a whole variety of reasons.  But charts and OPK seem to suggest otherwise.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this?  I'm freaking out that I've got a brain tumor or some kind of rare disease.

  • welcome-  sorry,  I can't answer your FSH question

You need to see an RE not an OBGYN.... then you can get a proper diagnosis.
