Raising your voice?

Do you raise your voice or yell at your LO's? I hate to do it, but sometimes it's the only thing that stops him or gets his attention if he's doing something I don't want him to. Is it not a good idea? I feel like I'm being harsh.

  • Only if it is about something life threatening, like the stove or the street. This LO is sensitive and the least increase in voice level makes him burst into tears. The older one has ignored everything I've said since the day she was born and yelling only

  • We do when we need to. I wouldn't say that we yell, but we definitely raise our voice of talk in a stern tone. He has become very good at listening lately. Stops when we ask him to stop, or hands us something he isn't supposed to have. So I'd say whatever

  • I don't really yell at the kids. I speak firmly and I do snap at E more than I'd like. Lo is a drama queen so even a firm no causes her to pout then crumple to the floor and she literally says "wah wah wah" while rolling from side to side.
  • I won't lie and say I haven't, because I have the odd time! I see parents yelling at there kids in Walmart or restaurants and feel bad for the kids. But at the same time I realize that parents get frustrated and maybe embarrassed there kids are making a s

  • I won't say I'm a yeller ALL the time, but with my older two girls who pretend not to hear me it happens.  (6 and 8 are fun sometimes, let me tell you!  LOL!)  I don't know that I've yelled at my LO other than when he scratched my chest one

  • I probably raise my voice too much. I always intend to stay calm, but dd stays so calm and determined when she is being bad that it makes me lose my cool. She likes to make sure I am watching before she does things she is not supposed to do. I usually get
  • I'm not sure if I've yelled at him, per se, but I have definitely raised my voice and felt bad.  I find that such a big part of disciplining for me is separating the discipline from the emotion it makes me feel.  I have to say to myself, "so wha

  • Yes, my older kids.  After I tell them 3 times I start yelling it.  Not screeching or nasty though, just loud so they can start paying attention.

Violet actually yells at Oliver and mimics me, for when Oliver needs to let the dog ou

  • All the damn time.  Not angry yelling but DD loves to completely ignore me until I use the loud or mean mommy voice.  I don't think I've lost my cool with DS yet. It will happen I am sure.

  • Good to know! I don't know why it bothered me, but I practically yelled: Edison no! Yesterday when he wouldn't stop going up and down the steps, but once I did he turned around and started playing with something else, so I know it worked. Just don't wan

  • I don't usually have to raise my voice. I've only yelled at N once and it was when she was itty bitty, I am sure I was a little depressed, she just wouldn't latch, I was starving...anyway the look on her face made me decide I was never going to yell li

  • Yup, I yell.  I find that it usually just makes everything worse but there are times of chaos that I am so frustrated with DD not listening that I yell.  It happens and I don't think it is necessarily a bad thing or that I am a bad parent bec

  • I really don't get why it's so hard to believe some people aren't yellers? I can only remember yelling at E once when he was touching the grill while MH was grilling. It's possible I have yelled at him other times but it's a rare occurrence w
