Bed transitioning for 20 month old

I'm currently 24 weeks pregnant with DS2 and DS1 is 19 months... today we decided to get DS1 new bedroom furniture so we could use the crib for #2... I would ideally like him to be transitioned by the time the baby comes, but I'm starting to get nervous. We don't get the furniture for another month... just looking for positive stories about bed transitioning! We did get him a full size bed and decided to skip the toddler bed altogether. Lately he has gotten interested in our bed, he will lay on it and say "night night" but he hasn't actually slept in it. He gets really excited to lay on big beds, but he won't stay still. So I'm already assuming it'll be a challenge to get him to STAY in the bed. He's never really been a great sleeper, didn't start STTN until 13 months and lately he has been sleeping 12 hours a night without interruption but some nights are still rough. Just wondering if there are any tips on a smooth transition!

  • You're braver than I am - we are in the exact same boat, but I'm 26 weeks right now.

I'm planning on keeping DD in the Rock n Play for a few months until she sleeps decently well. I don't want to deal with DS getting out of bed while I'm already

  • Aren't there bed rails you could possibly look into? I would think those could possibly be handy too.

  • Due to money we just flipped the crib to the toddler bed with a bed rail. Wh havehad no issues. Every now and then Michaela will get out off bed and fall asleep on the floor. No big deal it usually happens before I go to bed so I just pick her up and put

  • I think it all depends on your LO.

If you think he's ready, I would give it a try now so he has plenty of time to get used to it before the baby gets here.

Otherwise, if you keep the baby in a bassinet the first few months, then
