What kind of birth?

I have been watching the business of being born. And before watching it I had thought about getting a midwife, but it's my first and I have no idea what I'm doing. Has anyone else thought about how they will deliver? Hospital, home birth, or birthing center? Ob or midwife? Natural, medicated, or c section? Or has anyone given birth before? How was your experience. I know I have awhile but I want to make an educated decision.

Re: What kind of birth?

  • I'm thinking about a water birth this time around. I've had two previous inductions with epidurals so a water birth might be nice this time but I don't want to use a midwife... I'll have to see if my doctor/hospital even have the option of water births.&n

  • With my first baby, I initially had an OB and thought I'd give birth in a hospital - that's all I knew. Fast forward to 28 weeks and I was not loving the OB/hospital approach - it just didn't feel "right" to me. I always left my appointments wanting mo

  • I would definitely like a water birth but in the hospital of my hometown they don?t really like to do it though. I plan on taking an on-call midwife with me this time, since I wasn?t happy at all with my first delivery. I felt left alone for the whole twe

  • With my first, I had an OB and was really uneducated on midwives, home births, etc. My OB was the best in the city and was very educational and comforting during our normal visits. Giving birth was a different story with my OB. She did nothing....she left
  • I don't have much of a choice this birth.  If I stay here I will be a hospital c-section because of my previous one.  I have the choice to go to Germany and attempt a v-bac but I don't think the chances are high enough for me to even attempt it.

  • so with ava I had heard all the horror stories of induction and I was terrified I ended up haveing to get one. it ended up being the best experience for me ever. I am going to discuss another induction with my dr this go around.

  • Well assuming we are not high risk we will be doing a midwife at a stand alone birth center natural if possible. If I lived in the Midwest I would love to go to the farm but what can you do?

This was the plan last time, but I ended up on pitocin since my water broke without contractions started. I eventually gave up and got the epidural as well. The water birth was off th

  • I would love to do a home birth, but my husband and I will still be in our current apartment when I deliver, with thin walls, and neighbors on every side. Instead I plan to deliver at a midwife center. I have a lot of siblings, and mom delivered all of us
  • Both of my kids I had in a hospital with an OB. We don't have any midwives or birth centers in the area or I would definitely go the midwife in a birth center route. With DS1 I got induced when I was 4cm by having them break my water. I got an epidural (w

This is our first baby and we'll be delivering in a hospital with either my OB or one of her associate doctors. And I'll be on whatever meds they can give me! I might be open to exploring other methods/options of delivery for #2.
  • We plan to go the same route as we did with DS. In the hospital, with our doctor. I also plan to get an epidural again. DS was almost 10 pounds and labor was very painful even with the pain medication.
  • Midwife (with MD's always available), in a hospital and medicated :)  With my daughter my water broke at 35 weeks 5 days and I was not having contractions.  I was given pitocin and then a little while later, I got an epi.  She was delivered

First round I wanted to go natural in the hospital. But then I was in labor for 31 hours. Once I rounded the 24 hour mark I got an epidural because I was so tired and was worried if I didn't sleep for a bit I wouldn't have the strength to push. This ti
