We finally decided that we needed to do sleep training. My DH decided to start during her first nap today while I was getting a hair cut. I know you are not supposed to start with a nap, but my DH wanted to do it and have a success to get us going to report to me.
We are basically using the method in Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child (Weissbluth). We are following her sleep cues and putting her down when sleepy. We walk around with her in her room to get her calm. Then, we put her in her crib and rub her head and put a hand on her belly for a couple minutes and then we leave and don't do checks.
She fussed for about 20 minutes and fell asleep for 26 minutes. For her second nap, we put her in her crib for an hour and she never fell asleep and we got her after an hour. Tonight, we moved her bottle before her bath. She normally falls asleep during her bottle. We did her bath and then the same routine described above.
She cried off and on for about an hour. She would start sucking her thumb and even fell asleep a couple times but she had gotten the hiccups and woke herself up with them several times and started crying. After about an hour, she threw up in her crib, so we cleaned her up and did the routine again, put her down and she cried, but not as hard for about 10-15 min off and on and then fell asleep for 30 minutes and woke up and cried a little off and on for about 10 minutes and has been asleep for about an hour and a half.
The throwing up part definitely sucked, but I feel good that afterward, she went to sleep pretty quickly. We will see how tomorrow goes!
Re: Sleep Training Night #1
night #1 was terrible for us, but by night 2 she was sooo much better. She still doesn't sleep through the night, but she's 100x better than before training.
keep being consistent and it will pay off.
good luck!
