When's the ideal time to take classes?

I'm due near the end of August and trying to narrow down all the  NB class options available in my area. (Too many choices!!) All of them between 5 to 8 weeks long. When's the ideal time to be in class? I feel like I'm too early to have to make a decision, but if I sit on it too long the first choice classes will get filled up by the time I get over my indecision.

The more info than you really wanted:

There's a local Bradley class that starts at the end of April, which would have been perfect timing as a 12w course, but she runs an 8w schedule (with additional optional classes) which means I would only be 31w at the end. That feels a little too early.... I don't know when her next class starts, but she seems to start them every 2 months, which maybe would end me too close for comfort?

I'm also still not 100% sure I want to do BM.... There's about 6 other course options led by different doulas & other method specific practitioners within a 30 minute area of me (all of them are closer to the hospital I''ll deliver at which has the added advantage of getting to know a doula is I choose to go that route.) I don't know all their class schedules, but they all seem like course I would want to take during the 30w period......

Re: When's the ideal time to take classes?

  • It depends on when classes are offered in your area.  A class ending at 31 weeks is, to me, ideal.  Since the next round of classes may not start until after the other one ends which would means you'd be 39 weeks by the end of the 8-week cour

  • I would say the "ideal" time is somewhere between 30 to 35 weeks. But more important than timing is taking a class you think will work for you, so I would consider that first. I assume you'll get handouts or you can take notes to review if you think it's

  • This site has a great chart (scroll to the bottom) that's specific for when to take HypnoBabies, though I'm sure it would be about the same for any 5-6 week class.

  • I finished the Bradley classes when I was 36 weeks.  It was perfect because I went into labor @ 39 weeks.  From what I read it is ideal to finish your classes when you are @ 35 ish weeks.  IMO the class you was the important thing.  I
  • I recommend during the 5th or 6th month.  I waited until I was 7 months pregnant and was so uncomfortable in the classes that I was miserable.  Also, by 7 months I'd already researched on my own everything that was covered in the classes so i

  • We took classes that were focused on med-free pain management, and I liked that I was big.  Our classes ended about three weeks before my due date.  It made it easier to see which positions would be comfortable and which were too hard to get int
  • Having the class end around 34-36w is good in an ideal situation, then back up from there. If you end up really wanting the bradley class, go for it and just review your materials regularly.
  • I am due the last week of August. We start our Bradley class the last week of March. The instructor said we would be the least far along in the class but the next class would be to close to our due date. I am excited to start, plus I figure it will give u
  • To echo what some of the other ladies have stated, so long as you have the opportunity to take the class you want, it isn't imperative that it end so close to your due date. My husband and I started our Bradley class at 20 weeks and just finished last wee
