any expecting moms with special needs kiddos around?

My ds 12 was diagnosed with Aspbergers last year and I know this is going to be REALLY tough on him even if he doesnt say as much. He does NOT do change well. He is mostly indifferent to anything I am doing but heaven help us all when new baby starts motoring around and dares touch something pokemon related.

I want to try to transition him into all of this as easily as possible. One thing my mom did with me when she was expecting my sister (we are 8 years apart) was she took me out for breakfast every Saturday morning for just us time. I would love to do something like this with him but he is sometimes so quiet it makes for that awkward silence.   I've asked him if he wants to help me with shopping for the new baby and all he tells me is "You know I hate shopping, and walmart, unless its the toy aisle"

Any thoughts on how to get him engaged in the process?

  • Maybe instead of taking him shopping with you you could let him choose things online. For example, crib bedding, search your options online and show him to get his opinion on which one he likes best. It won't work with smaller things but you can do this

  • My child has special needs. I am more worried about handling her appointments and things (she should transition out of EI right when this baby is due, yikes!). I hope some others have some good ideas for you.

  • I did actually talk to him about doing some online shopping for the baby and he seemed mildly interested.

When I ask him how he feels about the baby he responds with "iono" but last night my mom asked him and he said.. "I think
