Looking for a new OB and hospital w/ NICU

Hi there!  My husband, son and I are moving to Gilbert from Tucson at the end of March.  I'm looking for a new OB who has privileges at the hospital we deliver at.

I delivered my son 6 weeks early due to a rupture in my membranes and had to be induced.  In turn, he spent nearly 4 agonizing (for my husband and me) weeks in the NICU.  Luckily and gratefully, the NICU at the hospital we delivered at was amazing!  Our son's room was large and private, the NICU also had 2 sleeping rooms with a private bath for parents to stay in overnight.  We stayed in those rooms for 3/4 of the time our son was there.  The staff was very accommodating and attentive to us and our son.  They encouraged us to spend as much time with him as possible.  If we do have another NICU experience, we want to have as much access to our child as possible.  Side note:  my sister aslo had a NICU baby in the PHX area and was only allowed visitation for 15 minutes every 3 hours.

Though I don't anticipate another early delivery, it is something we would like to be prepared for.  I am turning 34 this month, so I believe my age as well as preterm labor qualify me for a high risk pregnancy.  We would like to find an OB and hospital that we like as much as our Tucson doc/hospital in the Gilbert/Chandler/Phoenix area.  It is a very important decision for us.  Any information would be much appreciated!

  • Valley woman for woman is a great place. I'm pregnant with my first and both my sister in laws recommended it. My first visit, all the employees were so nice and helpful! They have a few locations, Gilbert/baseline, Val vista/Germann that's the one I go to one in chandler and in queen creek. Not sure of the crossroads.

Gilbert Mercy hospital is wonderful. Both of my sister in laws had their children there. One of them even works there in labor and delivery. It's a very nice hospital off of Val vista/Germann.

  • Depending on where you move in Gilbert... there is a specialized children's hospital in Mesa.... if you are concerned that is where you should go... if you go anywhere else and have complications they will move you to that hospital.

The hospital is  Cardons children's hospital and is part of  Banner Dessert Medical Center.  There are many doctors in Gilbert that have privileges there.  The actual rooms you stay in are very small but the hospital has great ratings for births.  There are also many wonderful hospitals around Gilbert as the PP stated, but if you want a specialized place for children Cardons is where you need to be :)

  • This is the OB I was seeing.  They aren't affiliated with the hospital I want to deliver at so I am leaving them.  They have an office in Gilbert though and the hospital there would be Gilbert Mercy which is small but nice.

  • I'm delivering at good Sam banner facility downtown. Best hospital in the state and one of the best in the country. They have a NICU that is part of Phoenix children's attached within the LD ward. They are wonderful. A teaching hospital and they specialize in high risk. I go Maricopa OB/GYN in ahwatukee. They only deliver at good Sam and they all did their residencies there or most of them. Love them.
  • you should check out the phoenix perinatal associates. they have a chandler office and primarily work with high-risk patients/mothers. they have doctors that have priviledges at banner desert in mesa with the children's hospital that's connected to it.
