PG>35 Weekly Check-In: To-Do List(s) Edition

[Mobile: PG>35 Weekly Check-In: To-Do List(s) Edition]

Hello, ladies! It's getting a bit late here, daylight savings time and all, but at least it's still Monday. My birth month board (April) is all atwitter with people who have EVERYTHING all done and ready for their baby, and their nurseries are perfect and their bags are all packed and they have enough food in the freezer to feed the entire North Korean army. I envy those people. I also kind of want to hit them for being so freakin' perfect, but I just seem to be increasingly irritable these days.

My life has become a series of to-do lists and notes on the calendar (any appointment not immediately put there is forgotten in the blink of an eye--preggo brain is REAL) and I feel like I could easily keep working on things until I am about 50 weeks pregnant. Stick out tongue My one great achievement this week was finishing and filing my taxes. I am normally one of those people doing them on April 14 (and mine are complicated, so it really takes a while), but I knew that wasn't going to fly this year, so I spent every waking moment on Saturday crunching numbers and filling out forms and got them done around 10 PM. I then indulged in a chocolate brownie from the best bakery in town that I purchased Friday as a "you can have this when you finish your taxes" brownie. It totally worked. Yes

I also had my first BPP (biophysical profile) on Thursday and everything looked great. I have a growth ultrasound this Friday and am already bracing myself to hear something ridiculous like "OMG, you've got an 11-pounder in there!!" Confused I hear far more stories of these pre-delivery u/s being waaaay off than I do about them being right (so why do they do them??).

One more quick shout-out: CountryGirlintheCity, how are you? Have you had your LO yet? Inquiring minds want to know! I miss reading about your DH's hilarious antics.

OK, on to the check-in!

  • QOTW: What are the biggest/most important things remaining on your pre-baby to-do list? If you are still early in your pregnancy, what part of the pre-baby preparations are you most looking forward to doing?

I need my boss to decide what to do w/my email/expenses while I'm out. We need to set up the bassinet & car seat this week and I need to pack our hospital bag! I'm also currently waiting on odds and ends that I ordered to complete our registry (changing pad/cover etc.) But, I feel like if Nate came tomorrow, we have the basics covered- I have his bag packed for the hospital. :)

Soooooooo my doc forgets how "young" I am(her words) and all of the lovely 7:30 am appts I had scheduled for my weeklies got thrown out the window last week. Why? Well b/c my perinatologist hunted my OB down and insisted I have U/S, stress tests and other exciting things done over the next 3 weeks. So I go in for my 36 wk checkup today (Strep B) and I'll have an U/S.

I'm trying to be grateful they are keeping an eye on things, but I really just think it's a CYA move to satisfy their paranoia. I know, I know- bad attitude :) It just makes me grouchy b/c I get to pay for the privilege of their paranoia now that I thought I was in the home stretch and just had the hospital bill to worry about.

It is really flipping my wig that I will be term/37 weeks this Saturday. I feel like this pregnancy has just blown by and I'm having little freak out moments- like, are we REALLY ready for this? LOL! :)

  • QOTW: AHHHH... we have so much to do still. My shower is this weekend, but we have nowhere to put stuff when we get back from it! Nursery is still a work in progress, we ended up having to level the floor, I guess that's what happens when you live in a 100yr old house, so now we have to get carpet, finish painting, DH found another water leak so he's patching that up. UGGGGG it's never ending. Forget the kitchen remodel we wanted to do, that's so not happening. I'm quickly realizing that living in a nyc apt isn't going to be a long term fit for us.

Updates: Growth u/s today! I feel spoiled going for these every 4 wks. Had regular OB appt yesterday, she said I'm measuring a little big all the sudden, so she's guessing baby may have had a growth spurt and is out of the 50% now. We'll find out today :)

  • I still need to get the hospital bag together and get the car seat base in the car.  I am not bothering with the frozen meals this time.  We did last time, but I really had plenty of time & energy to make quick stuff after the first week or so, and we had family cooking or buying take-out for us those first two weeks anyway.

Since this is our second time at the rodeo, I just don't feel the urgency that I did with the first, and I think I am in a sort-of state of disbelief that I am so far along already and, theoretically, this baby could come any day now.

Son #1 is already 2! Not too much longer until Son No.2 arrives! Lilypie Maternity tickers
  • We've decided to stay put in our 2 bedroom condo, so our biggest to do item is purging excess stuff and making the most of the space we have. I'm really looking forward to DD's new bed...I plan to make curtains to go around it to make it a fun spot for her.

No big updates. I'm 20 weeks, so half way there and feeling pressure to get stuff done before I get too big.

  • Danuli I'm with you on the annoyances of our bmb.  Don't worry I don't have a finished nursery, no bag packed and no freezer meals either.  My head is constantly going over what needs to be done and driving myself crazy.  If god forbid this baby came early we would have the essentials but I'm hoping to have the time to finish things and get more organized.  Oh yeah and finishing taxes are still on my to do list!

QOTW:  We are painting the dresser for the nursery and I'm hoping to get that done this weekend.  Then I can start washing and organizing clothes.  Right now the nursery is just a mess with everything we have gotten so far.  I may be having another shower so I'm waiting to buy the remaining items I need until then.  I also have some spring cleaning I would really like for DH and I to tackle in the next couple weeks but that may not happen.  My goal is to have the main stuff done by the end of this month so I will have a couple weeks with not a ton to worry about, fingers crossed!

Updates:  Nothing much has changed.  I'm just feeling big and uncomfortable and my wedding rings saw their last day for awhile yesterday.  We did have some classes last weekend and our hospital tour which was fun.  DH is really into it which kinda surprised me.  It was cute to see him diapering and swaddling a baby doll :).  Oh and I'm glad for some hospital rules which will keep family away from the hospital until we are ready.  I really don't want anyone there until we get back to postpartum so hopefully no one will be upset and if they are then oh well.

  • UPDATES: I have my anatomy scan on Thursday so I'm really excited about that. We decided once we have that done, we can go on ahead and let people know that we're expecting.

QOTW: There's nothing specific that I can think of. I'm just pretty excited about everything.

  • QOTW:  Our house is on the market, so there's really nothing I can do at this point to prepare.  If we sell and move, then I'll start getting a room ready then.  If we don't sell, it will go off market in June and I'll start converting our office to DS' big boy room and let his old room be the new baby's nursery.

  • Hello!

I would love to be added...

     your screen name          Hologram 87

    first name (optional)   Amy

    due date      11/14/13

sex of baby (if known, or will it be a surprise?)  we will be finding out when the time comes

As for things that I need to do, that would be everything.  We do have a lot of stuff from our first daughter so that will help, but our 3rd bedroom, which will be the nursery, needs a LOT of work.  Right now half the wallpaper is stripped off so we need to finish that and patch the holes, prime and paint.  The room needs a new window too, so we will need to get that replaced and then get carpet in there.  Then of course the furniture.  This is going to be a huge project and I'm a crazy planner so I just want to get moving on it.

    Hope everyone is doing well!

  • I'm right there with many of you ladies.  Our nursery is nowhere near complete, no meals in the freezer, and no hospital bag packed yet!! But at least we have a car seat and a place for baby to sleep.  That's all that matters, right? :)

QOTW: We had our shower this past Sunday and now, I'm trying to sort through all our gifts and decide what we want to keep.  And I'm slowly doing a load of laundry each day so that everything is washed and ready before she comes.  I have to admit, it's nice being off work but there's only so much cleaning and organizing one can do before going stir-crazy!

Updates: No big updates.  I'm starting to get more BH contractions which thankfully haven't been painful but a bit uncomfortable.  I'm also now doing weekly NST tests and so far everything's looking good and she's still baking in there.

  • Well this kid has exactly one onsie and some socks, so I am not the least bit prepared! Looking forward to setting up the nursery, but we need to move first. Meeting with a realtor after we get back from vacation, so hopefully our home will sell quickly and we find something more suitable.

Felt baby move yesterday! Felt like a swishy little goldfish when I was relaxing after dinner, so cool!

Hope you all get those to do lists finished up with time to put up your feet and relax.

I am right there with you. Remember how pissed I was that they sent me to the cardiologist, who found nothing wrong? Well, I got to pay the $363 cardiologist bill yesterday--they get paranoid and I get to pay for it. CYA medicine at its finest.

I knew you were going to be able to relate to that one, Danuli :)

But, I have to say, after my appt today, I feel a little bad about being crabby about it. The appt went really well, they say he's weighing in at 6lb 10oz and everything looks REALLY good w/all of his vitals/the placenta/fluid etc. My doc said he could come tomorrow and she would be fine w/it, but if he does go to EDD, he'll be about 8 lbs. YIKES!

She said to keep up whatever it was I was doing b/c it was working- I said- eating cookies and not exercising? Should I be writing a book? LOL! ;)

I am now "fingertip" dilated, cervix is softening and Nate is "locked and loaded" and very low in position. Time to get this show on the road!! :)

  • QOTW:I am so early I don't even want to think about baby prep (add that to the fact that I feel I just did all of this for my 9 month old :D

The biggest thing we have to do is build a new bedroom at some point!  We have a huge master which was made from two bedrooms (before we bought it).  We will have to divide it back up.  I am sad to loose the monster room but excited to have someone to put in there!

Nothing new - still getting used to the fact I am pregnant again!!

  • QOTW:  I have almost everything to do!  We were fortunate enough to have friends give us a crib, mattress and a few other baby items.  We bought a PnP this week. Other than that, I have nothing.  We looked at strollers, but I was so overwhelmed that I couldn't decide what to get and left without anything.  I'm sure it'll all fall in place eventually.

Updates:  I hired a doula.  I got so freaked out about the birthing experience that I felt like I needed someone on my side.  I'm so glad I did it.  The doula I interviewed seemed to be just the type of person to handle my and DH's personalities, which can be somewhat intense.  So, yay for that!  I'm also finally starting to show and people have come up to me and congratulated me and DH.  So, it's starting to feel real.  :)

It is really flipping my wig that I will be term/37 weeks this Saturday. I feel like this pregnancy has just blown by and I'm having little freak out moments- like, are we REALLY ready for this? LOL! :)

LOL! That's hilarious. I bet your book advising preggos to sit on the couch and eat cookies would sell like hotcakes. Sounds like Nate is right on track to be very normal--8 lb at EDD is not that big, is it, considering he's a boy?

I am debating whether to do any internal exams at all. I have heard so many stories about people walking around 3-4 cm dilated for weeks and then being disappointed when their baby still hasn't come and they're a week past their EDD. I guess it's encouraging to know something's happening, but there doesn't seem to be that much correlation between effacement/dilation and the beginning of actual labor.

  • danuli - just wanted to say your brownie award sounds awesome.  I am now trying to come up with something I can accomplish to give myself a yummy reward too!  DH already did taxes.

QOTW: What are the biggest/most important things remaining on your pre-baby to-do list? If you are still early in your pregnancy, what part of the pre-baby preparations are you most looking forward to doing?

Finish registering is my main to do right now.  Shower invites are going out this week.  We just got our nursery furniture in this morning, so I"m really excited about that.  Mostly we've been doing like other people on this thread, organizing, buying furniture for organizing, etc.

Share your updates and vents:  Not much to update.  Feeling good, but starting to have trouble sleeping once in a while.  Mostly just waking up and not being able to go back to sleep.

I need my boss to ok the maternity leave plan I gave him back in November.  We have childbirth and breast feeding classes this weekend, maternity photos the next and our last shower the weekend after that.  We need to get the car seat installed & inspected.  I want to stock some freezer food and make a baby quilt.

Well, we have a crib for him but no mattress.  We also need to purchase the tandem stroller we've been looking at.  Need to put up curtains in his room and wash clothes, sheets etc.  Honestly I'm not in too big a rush on all of this because he probably will sleep in our room (in a Pack n' Play) for the first couple of months.  The thing I do need to get right away is the stroller, so I can take him out and about with DD.  I also need to install the infant car seat base, and see if I'll need to move DD's seat (we have a Chicco Keyfit 30 infant seat and it may not fit behind the driver's seat very well in rear-facing position, which means DD's seat may have to move from behind the passenger's seat).

LOL about your birth month board.  I have never been on it (even though I'm also due in April), but that would drive me crazy.  And those ladies must all be first-time moms - I can say that at this point I'm procrastinating so much since I'm so busy with work, DD, etc. that this kid may have to sleep in a drawer for a while LOL.  Oh yeah and you'll have to get used to those to-do lists and calendar notes...it just seems to get worse once the baby comes and as they get older lol.

  • It's so interesting to read everyone's posts because we're all ant different spots in our pregnancies. I get a glimpse of what to expect reading the ladies who are further along and a bit of nostalgia ? reading those that are dealing with the earlier things!

QOTW: I feel pretty on top of things for now, although I have a feeling time will fly by and I'll be panicking at the end. I am the last of my friends to have babies so I'm getting a lot of hand me downs, which saves us both money and the stress of researching options and making choices. That said, I'm also having fun starting registries this week!

Updates/vents: This week was a pretty good week overall. I'm feeling pretty darn good! I started my transition plan for work for maternity leave, I'm a mental health therapist and need to have a plan and time to adjust to the plan for each and every patient. Only bad news came today when I asked my boss about the possibility of coming back to work part time after maternity leave it's a big fat NO. Apparently we're moving toward no part time therapists at all for a lot of reasons including precious office space going unused a couple days a week. MH and I need to start looking at daycare options ASAP but if we don't even know if I'll be in another part time job somewhere else or staying put full time... UGH. Although I do realize this is not such a bad problem to have, to be gainfully employed, lol.

They don't want part-timers because of OFFICE SPACE issues?! That seems like a totally bogus excuse to me. Can't you have two part-timers share an office such that it is in use full-time? That seems like such an obvious solution to me.

Glad you are feeling great and cleaning up in the hand-me-down department! I have also benefited from some things being passed along here and there and am so grateful.
